*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

I really ought to invest in the laser sight for some of my weapons, just got so used to ADS I always forget to just hip fire, and I always end up at a disadvantage.

It's pay to win. If you got no life and don't mind playing all day and night to earn 700 too 1000 certs to unlock a weapon then you will enjoy this.

If not, prepared to spend lots of money to get weapons.

I whole heartedly disagree. I don't often lose 1v1 fights as medic/eng using default weapons. Vanu are easy, Terran are closer fights.

Just started playing this myself and despite not really knowing what I'm doing really enjoying it! love the big battles :)

Playing as "The New Conglomerate" as light assault, not bought anything and tbh don't know if I would.

What would be the best empire to join if it matters?

No one said the default weapons are bad, jesus christ, the VS rifles are stupidity overpowered.

It's the RocketPods, Dual Brusters, Dual Mercies, Dual Scattermaxes and on top of that, secondly tank weapons, AA weapons on the Lib and whatever else that you need to be fully effective.

VS, everything about them rocks.

The one you enjoy the most, the colour you like, where your friends play, where an outfit you like the look of is? They do have differences but it's all playstyle and as in any mmo they'll probably fluctuate in terms of how good or bad those differences are. So pretty much pick whichever you want.

Generally they are supposed to be: (none of this really matters)

TR = Fast firing guns and fastest vehicles but lower damage per bullet and lower armour.

VS = Energy weapons (no bullet drop), faster reloads, hover vehicles (tanks that can strafe) and alien tech.

NC = Hard hitting but slower weapons, big love of shotguns in the original game and heavily armoured vehicles.

Those are supposed to be the stereotypical differences, however in reality hover vehicles and lack of bullet drop for the VS aside, they're all about the same in terms of whats available to you. E.G. MAX suit weaponry conforms to these ideas but say.. Carbines, every faction has a very fast firing Carbine not just TR. Every faction has at least three shotguns, not just NC.

Fair enough. I did buy a 2nd burster with SC, although funnily enough i've not played an AA max much since the surface-to-air xp change.. I think air is already too easily dealt with by rockets for Max's to be as necessary.

It's not pay to win, buying weapons just opens up more choices that's all.

You mean choices like the ability to lock on to vehicles, which unless you pay for takes a while to unlock. It's not completely pay2win as everything can be unlocked without real cash but paying certainly helps you out without sinking hours into the game.

I don't get why people get so upset over the pay to win term, there is no shame in it.

Sure you can play for free and never buy anything but when you are spending 700 to 1000 certs on buying that weapon, pretty much everyone else is spending all their certs in upgrading their weapons and equipment.

Personally, it's a shame PS2 doesn't follow the system in other games where you unlock stuff at different levels but that would require a retail price for the game, prefer that then this free to play system.

If it was completely even, there'd be no incentive to actually buy anything. They've gotten €60 euro out of me, about the price of a new triple-a game, and for that I reckon I've gotten enough to compete evenly at all aspects of the game.

It's an amazing game, but it's not a charity, there's no reason at all it should be completely free. Without paying you can log in and do quite nicely, your kill ratio isn't going to be massively behind anyone else's as infantry. If you want to focus on a particular aspect such as flying all the time or being a tank specialist, I don't think it's unreasonable that you should have to pay something, or put the time in to earn the weapons in-game.

Standard infantry weapons are just as good - you don't need to buy anything. I use Solstice, Pulsar as Vanu (weapons everyone has on day 1) and Gauss Saw or Mercenary as NC (also available day 1).

And this is after playing since Beta.

Nice **** up last night means I have to start from scratch!

Apparently I have 2 logins both in mehuk.... one on the station account and one with PSG... now I bought 2850 cash on my PSG account not knowing and wondered why it wasn't showing.... so basically my BR14 (I know its not that far in) is now a dead char in a station account and I had to start from scratch with a BR1 to use my money!

Bought the infantry box for 2000 and the annihilator for 700.... will sub for 3 months today to get the most out of the XP as well.

Back to the grind :(

Don't play like that. Just play for the enjoyment - like people played BF1942 (no stats, no long objective etc).

Just play for fun and in an outfit/platoon that is having fun. The certs and points look after themselves if you play that way.

This :)

Apart from ArmaII, this game has that strong feel of the infantry being a small cog in a big machine. As others said before, you are part of a team, a unit and an army. Yesterday, our random squad followed orders from the leader to attack a series of minnow checkpoints, away from the mass battle at The Crown. Our actions had a deciding effect on the battle, as the enemy suddenly realised that they were losing rear ground which was lightly/not guarded. People respawned or assets were moved from The Crown and other large battles. This allowed our army to develop a stronger push and foothold on heavily contested areas.
From a grunt's advantage, it was fun to steal assets and as part of a team, our points and xp increased dramatically. 100xp for teammate revive? Thank you very much!

So last night I spent about 2+ hours or so on Esamir repairing turrets, gens and SCU's in and around the Tech, Bio and Amp stations which made me just over 150-200 certs for my efforts. Was watching Game of Thrones again so that stopped me from getting bored. If anyone fancies doing the same, I recommend you rebind the "fire" key to something on the keyboard. :l Think I might get myself a other 50% XP booster when I do the same tonight.

So after making just over 900 certs, I spent 700 on my Prowler by buying Anchored mode up too level 3. The difference is like day and night when firing so looking forward till I can use it in battle.

I got 200 certs left which am not sure what to spend on, may save them again.

The new TR SMG looks pretty deadly and might be a decent upgrade for my Engineer.
