**Official Portal 2 thread**

(3) You can leave the game idle and still contribute. If your Steam profile acknowledges you are playing the game, then you are contributing. Running multiple instances of the game will NOT help unless you have multiple Steam accounts, and each account must run an instance of the game.

According to similar news posted over on RPS idling does not contribute.

I meant "why Can't I play a game that I have already downloaded" Jesus people are so techy about this, say something slightly off the wall and the teddies fly...

I have re-downloaded defense grid and it is working now...

The countdown doesn't change on the main site. That will stay the same. It's only the progress bar you should look at. When that fills up, it will unlock no matter how long is left.

is the progress bar a case of however much it has filled up gets deducted from the official release time?

or rather, it either fills completely and gets released at that point in time, or doesn't get filled completely and gets released at the original time it was supposed to?

And is that other site with the new estimated time, a predicted timer for how long it should take if things (cpu contribution) progress at the rate they are currently and eventually fills up - or - an actual deducted timer for when the game will release, dependant on how far the progress bar has filled - meaning it doesn't need to fill completely for time to be deducted from an actual release?

Apologies then but there's a lot of people out there with that attitude and it's just so stupid.

*head explodes*

The link I posted is a predicted time based on the rate it's going. Not sure if the rate changes as it will do as time goes on.

Apparently, this timer is more accurate: http://geiti.co.uk/sandbox/portal.php

They're both similar though.

damn valve and thier scamming me by giving me free content and new levels for games I already own!

Damn them!!

^
to watch a predicted timer for the rate it is currently going at is somewhat naieve though, as there's obviously going to be an influx of people all contributing at first, but that will eventually slow down and halt as fewer people are able to contribute.

I don't see this being released early.

No attitude from me. I just made my point that if the game can be released then it should, why hold it back and say if you play these games you can help release it early. Not everyone has those games or want's to buy them.
I think scam was the wrong word to use ?

Anyhoo I will play defense grid to help the cause.

I'm not too fussed about it being released early. I won't be home until tomorrow and have to build the new PC (never done it before). And once it's complete, I recently bought about six games to keep me occupied.

LOL, Valve put on an absolutely fantastic promotion and people think it's a scam?

If you don't want the games, don't buy them.

Fortunately for you, many people do want a lot of these games (I've just bought a couple I actually want), so there may actually be a chance that Portal 2 is released early.

It's a fun and funky promotion, and considering it's offering some great games at great prices as well as the chance of one of the most anticipated games of the last two years being released early, no one should be complaining.

might as well throw this out.
