Official Rampage Extreme Review/Overclock/Guide Thread

Hi to the forum!
Another RE owner here with mem issues. I have heard that some Gskill modules 1/2Gb dont work well with our mobo. Depends on IC´s.
I have 2x2Gb OCZ 1800 Reaper (Micron Ic´s) and all works bad. I need 2x2GB modules so i dont know what to buy now. I thinking, perhaps, Corsair TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX, but I have not seen any test with them. Perhaps OCZ Platinum 2000, for less than 500 FSB.
Any ideas?

2000Mhz stuff is pure fail, It wont even post at 1800Mhz only the XMP OCZ ram seems to work in this board.

0403 BIOS seems to work well with Micron based memory give that a try of your not running it, as I've had little problems in getting the high end corsair dominator kits running in this board. As for the 1600Mhx DHX stuff I'd personal get the 2x2gb Gskills kit over it.

Memtest your ram, I'd guess its failing badly from what you have discribed, If it is failing memtest RMA it back and you'll get a new set.

Lower the multiplier of your chip to 6 so your running at 2700Mhz, If it boot into windows its something do with your CPU settings, If not it could be a corrupted windows install or broken HD ect ect, If your rams passing memtest it should be fine.

There does seems to be an issue with the BIOS chips on this board, I have flashed 0403 and 0404 many times and i am now unable to boot from chip 2, It must be totaly corrupted.

Removing the stock cooling on the board will void any and all warranty that Asus offers, Please be carefull guys.

New bitspower blocks for the board :D

CPU voltage is way to high, Should be 1.45 max

CPU PPL is to high around 1.51v should be fine

CPU VTT is to low set it to 1.30v

NB is to low you'll need 1.45 plus I'd say that why your having problems booting into windows when you set a higher multi, Also try a different NB strap aswell as it can be a bit hit and miss with which strap works with which mem divider.

I need to work out what CPU i'm going to be using in the final build of my system along with this board

QX9650 400x10 or 400x10.5 easy as i'll only need 1600Mhz memory

Q9650 500x9 I have had little luck in getting memory to run stable at 2000Mhz which is what I need to go this route.

Anyone got any thoughts on the matter ?

Updated your BIOS to 0501 and download http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

First thing to do is get your memory to pass memtest, Set the XMS profile in the bios then change the settings you can to the ones below.

Tweaker Menu
Ai Overclock Tuner: Manual
CPU Ratio Setting: 8
CPU Clock Skew: Auto
NB Clock Skew Auto
FSB Strap to North Bridge: 400
PCIE Frequency: 101
DRAM Command Rate: 2N
DRAM Timing Control: Auto
DRAM Static Read Control: Disabled
DRAM Dynamic Write Control: Disabled

Ai Clock Twister: Auto
Ai Transaction Booster: Auto
EPU II Phase Control: Auto
CPU Voltage: 1.40
Load-Line Calibration: Enabled
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.51106
FSB Termination Voltage:1.32
CPU GTLVerf (0): Auto
CPU GTLVerf (1): Auto
CPU GTLVerf (2): Auto
CPU GTLVerf (3): Auto
NB GTLVerf: Auto
North Bridge Voltage: 1.45797
DRAM Voltage: 1.90856
NB DDRVref: Auto
DDR3 ChannelA Vref: Auto
DDR3 ChannelB Vref: Auto
South Bridge 1.5 Voltage: 1.51106
South Bridge 1.05 Voltage: 1.06039
CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled

All you want to do first is get your memory stable and passing memtest.

Just use the XMP profile and your pretty much ready to go. I'm pretty close to getting 8gb of the same ram passing memtest in my board atm lol
