Wigan scored 200 tries last season, 99 by Richards, Tomkins and Charnley
Its Round 1, come back in October ;)

Or, looking at it another way, its the first game of the season and EVERY team in SL is going to be a bit spluttery, wayward passes and not quite clicking. It's to be expected for round 1. Huddersfield were far from perfect either.

Matty Bowen - no case to answer! Well ok then.

Lol! Well ok then indeed. That was unexpected. Oh well, good luck to him and Wigan in the WCC. SL teams have fared pretty well in the WCC recently, or have at least been competitive in the games, but maybe it being in Australia this year might push it beyond Wigan.

Wigan looked a bit weary towards the back end of the first half against NZW yesterday. NZW had part of their 1st team pack out (most of the backs were rested for the 9s) and they were rolling up the middle quite ominously. Whether that was part jet lag I'm not sure. At half time the teams changed dramatically. Wigan took most of their regulars off (as did NZW) and put the younger players on. They looked dominant from that point on. Powell (in particular), Hampshire and Joe Burgess looked good.

I suppose the findings from this are that Wigan's 2nd team are much better than NZWs 3rd team.

The whole game (and highlights) are on a well known video sharing website (search for Warriors v Wigan Warriors)

I agree with Fuggan about the Roosters game

Utterly dominant display from Saints this evening. I was actually quite scared by how good they were. Certainly no early season rustiness on show from them tonight.

Warrington just didn't have the answers. Missing Briers? Maybe, but there was enough talent out on the pitch tonight wearing primrose and yellow to put up more of a fight. Tony Smith will be disappointed.

What a player Luke Walsh looks. Had a hand in pretty much everything and bagged a try at the end there, great debut and this performance tonight will have certainly caught the attention of the other SL clubs.

LOL, I think you mean primrose and blue :D

Warrington were great for the first couple of minutes but then Saints just stepped it up a gear and Warrington had no reply!

Luke Walsh looks mighty, great debut as you as say and his kicking was spot on. Roll on a Catalans win tomorrow now :D

D'oh yes! Er...primrose and blue! Damn finger trouble.

You're right about his kicking, never looked like missing a single conversion.

really enjoyed that. love an away game

saints have improved in both the areas i felt we lacked last year. luke walsh was particularly impressive.

lots of mistakes by both sides but i think warrington were really poor

Screw today, roll on Sunday! Can't wait to watch the boys in full swing again for my annual journey back home.

1. Your team? Widnes Vikings
2. Your highlight of last season? Beating Wire on all league occasions :D
3. Your expectations this season? 8th.
4. Your most anticipated new signings? Tickle. We need his kicking game!
5. Who you think will win the league leaders shield? Prefer Wigan.
6. Who will be the dark horses of the competition? Us? Hopefully... definitely not Salford.
7. Any updates from your club, new ground etc? Same old. A few new Directors to share the costs.
8. Final league position of your club? 8th
9. What (or who) will be your clubs weakness next year? Defence, as last year.

More very bad news after Carvell has been "poached" for Bradford. Looks like Sammut has now signed for Wakefield. That must be devastating blow for them. Dodgy circumstances with Carvell leaving. Lots of rumours flying around.

I counted 9 players that had changed/left/injured from Wire's squad last year. Saints really did look the dogs, Walsh is a great signing for them, reminds me of a bit of a Sean Long character.

Anyone watch any of that Auckland 9s on Premier Sports (or a stream ;)) last night/ this morning? I was absolutely loving it!

It looked spectacular. NZW losing in the semi sort of took the edge off it. The last two games were the dourest of the whole weekend.

Interesting on Day 2 how teams ran their big players at Sam Tomkins. He's better get used to it :). He started off like a house on fire, but was quiet in the later games.

Sts are getting the benefit of all their younger players getting regular game time last year. If they keep improving like that, they'll be off to RU for the 'chall£nge'.

Looks like Rovers strategy of not playing many pre-season friendly minutes badly backfired on them yesterday. They were well off the pace, particularly the backs and we got battered in front of a record crowd. Both sides were rusty, but Leeds were less rusty!

Disappointed that Burgess has switched to RU and am surprised that SSR couldn't match his earnings at Bath. No doubt he will be paid handsomely for any international appearances he might make by the RFU.
