*** Official Rugby League SLXX Thread ***

I'm not sure it has worked. I thought it was a good idea before it happened. But now, I think the middle 8s have been fairly predictable in that the SL teams finished in the top 4. It was a breeze for Rovers, quite honestly.

If Bradford come up at the expense of Wakefield then fair enough, but I think Leigh should have been promoted in a one-up, one-down system. They were the better team over the course of the season and Wakefield were dire over the course of the season. I could quite easily see them getting turned over by Bradford on the weekend. I think the current system would work better if the gap between SL and the Championship wasn't so large.

I suppose you could use the same argument to state that whoever wins the league leaders shield has been the best team over the season, but the Grand Final is always rated above winning the LLS.

The SL teams gear everything towards the play offs and the GF. The LLS brings a nice wedge with it £100k, but with sudden death semi finals it doesn't have the same advantage that it used to.

Wigan came within 36 seconds of winning the LLS and they have been consistently inconsistent all season.

I hope Bradford win, but I suspect Wakefield will win by 20+ points.

Cas were really good in the last 20 minutes of the first half at Wigan. Luke Gyale was outstanding and I thought we had the England no 7 nailed on. Wigan's pack got back on top in the second half and he disappeared. I have no idea who will play scrum half for England

And already I want Wakefield to win....that Bradford dummer is doing my head in!

I absolutely detest drums and trumpets, its all so artificial. Drives me mad. Thank god we don't allow them at Rovers. Annoying at Leeds, Widnes, Warrington....

Gutted today gents. Just gutted.

Supporting Bradford home and away for all these years, enduring the pain of Administration and numerous management blunders then falling at the final hurdle, leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.

To be honest wtw won the game fair and square on the day. We were simply just that little bit short of energy and the big stage got to one or two players emotionally.

I am a little bit miffed that wtw were allowed to buy players so close to the transfer deadline. In my opinion, this gave them the major advantage of propping up their squad, which the championship salary cap didnt allow for.

I suspect we will reduce our squad from 37 players to around 25 and keep the money spare, until the transfer window deadline comes near and then buy in as required (still keeping us within the cap).

In regards to Jimmy's rant.....
Jimmy said privately at the beginning of the season that he didn't agree with the new format, but, he was not the majority so the bulls had to go with it. I guess his opinion hasnt changed. :-)

Absolutely. They just limped through the regular season and then spent right at the end. I was really keen to get Bradford back where they belong

Agree also.

Wakefield deserved to go down, I'm sorry to say. Not to mention that their attendances are always pretty much boosted by 50%each game from the opposition fans!

Looking forwards to my first Grand Final attendance, even though its not Rovers! :P

Can't wait till Saturday :) bad decision imo to play the union match as well in the same city, dreading the wait for a pint it's bad enough as it is on grand final day, hoping that now England are out most of the toffs won't make the trip up, having said that if they're struggling with sales I can see them going on Groupon for £5 a pop lol

Quite possibly a vindictive move by the powers that be in RU I'd say. It may well be a coincidence, but I highly suspect its an effort by the RFU to upstage RL whenever they can.

Am I being too cynical? Maybe. Maybe not.

No mate, but it has backfired badly for them, the only game on Saturday as far as I am concerned is the gf, proper rugby, big hits, commitment, passion, aggression, more explosive quick play instead of rolling around in a ruck arse sniffing

What a game, my head is REALLY hurting this morning though! Was in the Wigan side, in the SAF stand on the second tier but there were plenty of Leeds fans in there too. Cracking atmosphere and the second half was awesome. Some Wigan fan kept rubbing my head when Wigan scored a try because I was cheering for Leeds, cue rubbing his head back at the end!

Bit of a sore head this morning myself.

Good game (although I am gutted). Though the best team just about won. To be fair, apart from a 3 week blip just after Wembley, they've been the best team all year and play a really attractive brand of rugby. When Wigan got an offload away they looked suprised and headed back into the ruck. When Leeds got one, It went wide quickly and accurately.

You need a bit of luck in finals. Wigan have had loads of 50/50s gone their way in previous years, but not last night.

Haven't seen any TV replays. I thought the Leeds 2nd try came from a knock on, but couldn't see the big screen clearly. I'm assuming there was no problems with it.

Wigan taking the 2 at 18-16 was a turning point for me. Leeds were blowing out their arses and it gave them chance to regroup. Once they got back in front Sinfield managed the game to make sure Wigan never got another sniff. A great player.

Been some talk about trouble before the game. I mixed with Wigan, Leeds and Wire fans all day and had a great craic. The motto here is 'don't drink on an empty head'

That will do very nicely, thank you!

At 0-10 I thought t was the usual story v Aus/NZ but they realty got stuck in. Tom Burgess and Roby had a massive impact off the bench. Not the prettiest game I've ever seen, but I've seen too many gallant defeats that I'm not complaining.

It was nice to get a few 50/50s in a Test match. Aussie ref next week so we can forget about it happening again :)

<sigh> England were less effective (both half backs were poor) and NZ were a bit more effective. A desperately poor game, as you'd expect from a Mcnamara ' there is no plan B' coached team.

George Williams has been like this all season - good games, followed by poor games. I don 't think Luke Gale is the answer though. I'm more worried about Widdop - he should be taking the lead in this

I didn't think the Graham 'try' was a try, so no problems with that.

You just feel that Aus would put 30+ points on either of these teams
