Official Season 2008-2009 predictions thread

Are people putting Spurs to be the surprise package in a positive or negative sense? If its positive how is it really a surprise considering they should be expected to do well giving the money they've spent?

Your Team's Predictions Rangers: Despite a desperate start to the season, knocked out at the CL qualifiers we NEED to win the league to guarantee this doesn't happen again. I feel with a few midfielders signed in the next few weeks the team will improve vastly and Euro distractions could derail Celtic's season.

SPL

Rangers (Champions, Auto Champs League....this time)
Celtic (Runners up, 2nd QF CL)
Motherwell (UEFA Cup Place)

To be Relegated: Hamilton

Scottish League Cup

Rangers

Scottish FA Cup

Celtic/Rangers Final (Domestic treble for the Gers though)

EPL
Chelsea
Man Utd
Liverpool
Arsenal/Tottenham ;)

I feel it could be very close at the top of the league once more with Chelsea just shading it this year. I also expect Tottenham to have a great season with them possibly finally achieving the coveted 4th spot they have been chasing. Liverpool will do well in Europe once more but again will fall short come the end of the season, I see Robbie Keane being their key signing this year as the perfect foil for Torres. The top 4 are pretty much picked every year like the SPL.

Relegated

Stoke, Hull, WBA....greatest league in the world indeed. To be fair there is a lot of dire teams in the EPL this year and I think there is a good few to choose from in terms of relegation. I'll go for the newly promoted teams as they are the most likely to drop but Wigan definately wouldnt surprise me.

Surprise Package

I'm gonna say Fulham, they should be pretty safe this season and pushing for a Top Half finish which would be a surprise indeed after their dire time last season.

Your Team's Predictions

This summer has been awful, i was happy to see Southgate shift a lot of deadwood, then nothing happened, then i was excited to see the two signings we made, then nothing happened, now Young is going which is a massive mistake and Southgate has an awful lot to do in the next week to build my confidence back up and regain some respect. Right now i'd be happy with our place of 13, last week i would have said 10, if things dont change it could be 16.

you could argue having Mido back from maternity leave could be like a new signing.

Yeah, funnely enough me and the girlfriend are staying in Harrogate this weekend and we went downstairs for breakfast this morning, sat down and heard some foreign people next to us talking, glanced over, thought nothing of it, looked again and it was Mido and Arca :D Didn't want to as for autographs as they were eating but it was cool all the same

Mido was eating Arca's full english everytime he turned his head.

Your Team's Predictions

I think it'll generally be a very strong performance but it'll once again go right down the very last day. The likes of Anderson and Nani will contribute more. Hopefully, Ronaldo will come into the season like he finished last season. Rooney, Scholes and Rio will be key this season. Also, I was very impressed with the Silva twins. So that gives us a few more options. Would like Fergie to sign a new striker. Berbatov would be a great addition.

All in all I hope for a 3rd straight win. Expect to get to at least the Semi's in the FA cup. As for the Champions League, it will be very difficult to keep it but I expect us to, again, reach at least the Semi's. And for the Carling Cup, if SAF can be arsed we should make it far, but as far as he is concerned it's a runout for his reserve squad so with our new talent like Possebon, Silva twins, etc. we may get quite far. The more trophies the better.

But for me the paramount of this season is that we MUST win the Community Shield. If we don't win that then I will consider the season a failure. Most important trophy.lol

Although, Chelsea will be even tougher than before. Remember, last season went down right to the wire. The last 20 minutes of the premiership and the very last second of the Champions League. They've strengthened their side massively with additions such as Deco and Bosingwa. They've lost Makalele who was a key player.

FA Prem

Manchester United
Chelsea
Arsenal
Liverpool/Tottenham

To be relegated: Stoke, West Brom, Hull

FA Cup
United v Chelsea - Chelsea will win on Penalties.

League Cup
Dunno

Champions League
I reckon another English club will be in the final. The Premier League has established itself as the leading European League.

Your Team's Predictions: Spurs

Well the pressure is on after the summer spending, and I have a feeling it will not end here. Ramos is a very good coach and providing the team gels well I think we could be on for a top 6 finish. Excellent first eleven, put average squad players.

Breaking into the top 4 will be tough, but not out of the question.

FA Prem

Manchester United
Liverpool
Chelsea
Arsenal

To be relegated: Stoke, West Brom, Hull

FA Cup
Aston Villa vs Liverpool - Villa win.

League Cup
Tottenham

Champions League
Inter Milan

My Team

I expect Celtic to win our league and a cup final would be nice, Champions league I really want to get last 16 again although it will be tough and put in a better performance than we did last year against Barca, if we dont get that far then a really good UEFA cup run, like I think we should expect semi-final. It will all be tough, I think Rangers will provide a challenge and all European teams do for us as well.

Don't have an English team I'm afraid. Just looking forward to seeing new players like Modric, Dos Santos and Nasri.

Premiership

1. Chelsea
2. Man Utd
3. Arsenal
4. Liverpool
5. Spurs

It's tough but just gone for Chelsea as they have a better manager than last year, better right-back, added Deco and Lampard and Drogba performed below par last year and they had the ACoN which took a few of their players.

Whereas Man Utd haven't strengthened yet and have Rooney and Ronaldo unfit.

Spurs had a howler last year, they've strengthened a lot with good players and manager, teams that finished high last year like Everton, Villa, Blackburn are all weaker this year in my eyes.

European Cup

Inter

There's a handful could do it but I like Mourinho and Inter have a lot of talent but he will add the mentality.

My team's predictions

We'll struggle this year. Our squad is wafer thin as it is and O'Neill just won't spend money on quality players. If we have a good UEFA cup run then we'll struggle even more.

Early UEFA exit: 8th
Good UEFA run: 9th/10th

Premiership

Man Utd
Chelsea
Liverpool
Arsenal

Relegated

Fulham
Stoke
Hull

FA Cup

Chelsea

League Cup

Liverpool

Champions League
Possibly Real Madrid

Surprise package of the season

I don't expect any surprises at the very top or bottom, but I think Sunderland can have a good season and squeak into the top 10.

Team to avoid relegation on the last day

Bolton

Championship

Sheff Utd
Birmingham
QPR to go up via play-offs

Relegation:

Doncaster
Blackpool
Burnley

I don't think I could've got those more horribly wrong if I'd tried!!

Burnley to go down from the Championship..err :D

Think i'm the only one suggesting Arsenal drop out of the top4 - but to me they are going to struggle big time. Sure I don't think Adebayor would be of great benefite to them in the coming season, so him leaving isn't so bad, but Kolo Toure has played greatly in the past and can be right pain in the arse. They don't have much of a squad to start with so it's surprising they want to reduce it even more, with no intentions it seems to buy much.

FA - Chelsea
CL - Barcelona (please, rape Real)

As for Man Utd retaining a record 4th win on the trot, they managed to win it last season when they shouldn't have in my opinion. No attacking fluency or real goal threat like they had in the seasons before, but boy did the defence and work ethic kick in to great effect. So for Ronaldo & Tevez leaving they can crack on with genuine good attacking teamplay with smart assists, rather than shaping it around Ronny and hoping for the best.
