***Official Shogun Total War 2 Thread***

Run fine zoomed out at about 30-40 with [email protected] and 4870 1gb.

Zoomed in it went down to like 20 or so.

It plays like the old Total War games like Medieval 2. But the siege mechanics are wacky, by that i mean i need a lot more practice because i suck at it.. ><
Told the ninjas to get up the walls and they get insta-raped by Katana Samurais in the campaign tutorial.

No AA but the game looks pretty nice, the image quality is not perfect but its close.

What chance do I have of running this on a E6600 and a 5770?

The requirements look ridiculously unrealistic :(

I haven't played the last few TW's (after Rome I thought M2 was poor and from what I've heard the last two weren't any better. Shogun was amazing though so I hoped this would be a return to form.

Um to be quite honest I dont know! I presume you guys are running FRAPS?
Im heading to bed now but will give it a whirl tomorrow. I expect Im getting around 30ish FPS but I could be wrong so please dont quote me on that!

Will give hard numbers tomorrow :)

In the meantime, Im happy about this game and very much look forward to my preorder :)

Ok I just got some numbers quickly :p

Campaign map - 50 to 60fps
Tried the historical battle was getting around 40-60fps during the intro bit
Then when I was given controll of the map itself around 35-50fps
And during hectic battles 30-40fps
And when zoomed in real close onto battles with full unit detail around 25-35fps

Those are the rough figures :)
Oh thats with 2X "box" (in catalyst control center thingy!)
EDIT: With everything on ultra/top detail of course!

gonna give this a quick go before bed, will report on how it runs on a mid range system.

edit:

Plays ok, it set it to ultra automatic at first but that was 20fps in battles, tried 'high' and that was ok, 30-40fps but still dipping the 20's in big battles. Turned off shadows completely and it was playable, 30fps in big battles, maybe the occasional 20-25 when zoomed in on hectic fights.

Havent tried the campaign yet but the historic battle was good, reminded me more of older total war games. The animation and look of the battles is the most realistic yet, although the UI isnt great IMO, should go back to M2.

You really do need a powerful rig though, i reckon this with AA enabled will bring a lot of systems to their knees. But i'd be happy to play it at medium settings til i upgrade, as it seems great fun.

yeah can get M2 and the expansion for 9.99 on steam.

Its not too demanding, nothing like Empire, but it still looks great.

What system did you play it on? your sig machine?
Playing RTW with a lot of men is terrible.

When i upgraded my pc, the maker of the mod i played said i chose the wrong processor, meaning RTW didnt support multicores at the time and the slow clock speed was a bottleneck for it (2.4Ghz Q6600).

Still laggy as hell with my new GTX480 lol i have to 'look away' so move the camera to the edge of the map and face outwards i get 30 fps, if i turn the camera around towards the city and all the men i get 3 fps.

I just lost one of those 'impossible to lose' battles, you know how to defend and exploit the AI and get heroic victories each time. But not this time, Royal Pikemen let me down big time and bent into a cresent.
Should be like film 300 and hold the line lol!

I smiled when the game CTD after i lost it, its not cheating if the game crashes:D

Looking forward to your report on the demo, ive got similar spec to you.

specs in sig, i can run M2 with 5000 odd troops at max settings smoothly :)

Just noticed your CPU is clocked way higher! but i do have a better graphics card.
Just depends what M2 uses the most, i bet its processor again:(

Anything over 4000 on RTW and mine struggled, since ive got my GTX480 its been better though, 15,000 men battles only take an hour now instead of 2 lol

I always found Medieval 2 ran a lot smoother than rome in big battles no matter what hardware. But yeah Total War games love a fast CPU both in number of cores and Mhz, have you not tried overclocking?

I think I'll give this a miss for now. Not sure there's much point in buying it as I still enjoy playing Rome and Medieval 2 mods.

Just don't seem to enjoy playing the newer Total Wars, I thought it was just because of the predominantly ranged warfare of the last 2 but I don't really get wowed by this new Shogun either.

I'll wait for the Steam sale.

Thats good performance with 5770 CF.

Maybe my 4870 is just a tad old for this now... :(

Not bad!

E8500 @ 4.02
3870X2
4gb RAM
Windows Vista

Ran it pretty damn smooth on mostly high settings. DX10 only though, of course.

Only did the tutorial for a chunk of it last night (wanted to see the movies and hear the advisor speak) but it was great to hear the unit speak and watch close combat.

Just wondering how on earth the cavalry's so fast when turning

Ran really smoothly on my rig, everything set to Ultra with ssao on, dof on etc. Not one stutter at any point in the demo. Might be a different case once I use AA.

I like the demo, campaign additions/changes are nice and battles are as nice as ever.

The only problem I had was in the siege battle, I don't know if it wasnt working properly in the demo? but my men just would not scale the walls no matter how many times I told them to. I managed to get one group to do it, the rest just stood next to the wall ignoring my order.

Yeah thats what happened with my troops too, They were just standing around and doing nothing but getting shot by Archers.
