*** Official SONOS Thread ***

So I picked up a refurbed Sonos Beam Gen 1 from the Sonos Store.

My first sound bar. Very impressive bit of kit.

I have Google Assistant set up on it, so its great commanding it to do and play things. The only issue is the playing of BBC Radio stations.

My BBC Sounds account is linked to my Sonos account and I can use the Sonos app to select the radio station I want to listen to no problem. I have my You Tube Music account linked too, so I can ask it to play a song for example and it will from that service.

However, when I invoke Google Assistant and ask it to play BBC Radio 2 for example, the response I get is that is trying to stream it from TuneIn. I know that's not going to work as BBC Radio stations no longer stream via TuneIn.

Has anyone else come across this?

On my phone I have to say "Play Radio 2 on BBC Sounds" when using Google assistant, so try that.

Should have updated.

Came across this on BBC website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/help/questions/playback-issues/sonos-help

Notably this bit:

Are you trying to use Google Assistant?

While Alexa works on Sonos devices which are voice enabled, BBC Sounds is not yet supported using Google Assistant. However, we are in discussion with Google and Sonos to find a solution and enable this feature.

Looks like you have to either wait for a fix or use Alexa.

Hi all,

Quite new to the Sonos Eco system, ive just ordered myself a Sonos Beam Gen 1 Refurb from the Sonos website to use with my older LG OLED (C6V - which i hope to upgrade at some point to a newer model) , however I also already have a Sonos One (a black one with built in google assistant - not quite sure what varient this is (it was gifted to me a long while back).

Is there an easy way to tell what Sonos One I have? And also what's the deal with what other "varients" of this to be pairable with as a "stereo pair" should i want to add them in partnership with the beam?

I dont think the misses will EVER want me to do it due to our rather modest sized living room, but if i could pick up a second cheap enough i would love to be able to give it a try should i ever want to?

Best bet would be to check in the app, open up settings, then System. If its an original it would be called a "Play:1" & if its a newer one with Alexa etc it is called a "One". (Or it is on mine anyway)

I believe you need to keep the same types paired in order to use as the rears with the Beam.
Ikea also sell 2 types as well which would be used as rears.

What you can do, IIRC is add your beam and 1 into the same "room" and play the TV through both and see if it warrants (i.e. not good enough) buying a second matching 1. You might not want that, but worth a try first.

Yeah thanks its named as a "one" so at least that clears that up.

Beam gen 1 comes tomorrow so hopefully its as good as im hoping!

Hi Folks, I'm looking to upgrade my bedroom setup (2 play 1's behind the bed) with a soundbar. The obvious choice being Sonos as then I can use the 2 existing Play 1's as rears - nice!

I'm torn between the Ray and the Beam Gen 1 refurbished. With 15% student discount on the Ray, there is only £2 difference between them. The TV is an older 43" 1080p LG and we watch all content through an Apple TV using a combination of Plex and AppleTV+.

I would also be willing to splurge on the Beam Gen 2 if you guys think it would be worth it - especially for future proofing.

Any thoughts?

So I bought the Beam Gen2 with 15% student discount. I knew it would be better than my TV speakers - but wow! Paired with a couple of Play:1's as rears, it blows my old 5.1 system that I have downstairs out of the water.

Now to save up for an Arc and sub for the living room - and maybe a sub mini for the bedroom when it is released ;)
