*** Official SONOS Thread ***

Wanted a second Play:5 gen 2 to pair up to my fcurrent one, but no deals on them.

Anyone unsure on a play:5, don't be - they're epic.

I'm so happy with the pair of play 1's I bought yesterday I'm getting another pair for upstairs. I was interested in the 5 but the stereo separation will be much better on the pair of 1's. Plus they go loud enough for most situations :)

Still not found the need for a Play5.

For me the biggest advantage of the Sonos is the multi room capability. I much prefer quieter music in all the rooms rather than louder music in one.

Even when I take one of the Play1's outside it does a fantastic job.

When you can buy 3xPlay1's for the cost of a single Play5 I just don't see the need as yet.

The Play 5 Gen 2 is outstanding, so much better than the first one and the 3. Love mine in the kitchen.

You're comparing the Gen2 against the Gen1 speakers - have you tried a Play1 at home? Have you got multiple Sonos currently?

I let two of my colleges in the office borrow one of my Play1's as they both had the Play5 Gen2 and were looking to buy another.

They both ended up buying the Play1 "starter kit" (i.e. the pair for £300) last year instead of a second Play5.

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand and appreciate the better sound stage you're getting from the Play5, I'm just wondering if you've tried it and you truly think it's worth it.

I can appreciate the point of view for people that maybe have multiple sonos already that are essentially upgrading their system over time. But again, I think for anyone starting out your best focusing on what Sonos does best, and that's multiroom.

EDIT: I also think that neither of us is going to change each others mind on this :D

Yes, I have multiple SONOS speakers in the house, there are 2 Play 1's (previously 4), a Play 3, a gen 1 Play 5 and a gen 2 Play 5. Oh, a Playbar too as well as a Sonos connect driving Monitor Audio G300's.

I agree a stereo pair of Play 1's is a great sound, but they don't match a Play 5 for bass and overall soundstage.

Strongly agree with this. The sounds from a Play 5 is MUCH better than a Play 1, not just at higher volumes.

That said, if you had a strict budget, I would get multiple Play 1's over a Play 5.

I've got 2 x Play 5 gen2s in a stereo pair in the lounge but everywhere else I have the play 1s, because most of the time the play 1 quality is fine and they're just there to let music carry through each area/room.

But the lounge is quite a large room so the extra volume is useful (plus I can point them out into the garden), or when it's just me, I can enjoy the better quality music they produce.

I'm starting to replace some Play 1s with the play 3 in some other rooms though, but kinda waiting for a price drop or 'play 3 gen 2' before I commit to that too much.

BTW I've bought a lot of my Sonos kit second-hand or 'open box', makes it more affordable and most are covered by warranty still anyway. Paying full price for the sub and playbar in one go was painful.

Just bagged another Play 1 from RS - £124.95 open box special.

It had been taken out of the box and put on display while I was in the shop. WIN!

Nice find!

Soon tempted to get the SUB. Should I do it? Anyone have one? Just how good is the SUB+Playbar vs just the Playbar?
The sub is pricey but adds great depth that the playbar just can't produce. Certainly makes film soundtracks much better. I actually have it turned down a bit in the room settings.

Same for me. I found the sub really intense and had to turn it down quite a bit for movies. For day to day TV, it seems to be less intense. But it does help free the PlayBar up to concentrate on the higher frequencies.
