*** Official SONOS Thread ***

Looking at buying a speaker for our open plan kitchen 4 X 5M in size which then goes into our living room which has a Sonos Beam 2. I was set on buying a Era 300 but then saw in this thread that the Sonos 5 would be a better buy? It would be used for music and sports whenever I'm cooking
The 5 is better for a large room, particularly with it having a lot more bass, but it doesnt do spacial audio which the Era 300 can. The 5 is nearly £100 more expensive and bigger.

I criticise the sonos app all the time. I don't think you can criticise speaker quality though, I have a pair of 5's stereo paired in my kitchen / dining room and they are excellent.

Just received the Era300 its disappointed to say the least I was expecting to be blown away, sadly it sounded muffled, tinny and washed out audio which I appreciate that sounds contradictory :( My Sonos beam2 sound better for music.

I've ordered a Apple Homepod to see how that sounds - properly ****** off I had high hopes for it

Can you return it?

Personally this is why I always listen to demo speakers in shops before I buy
Yeah I ordered it from Amazon, it's on its way back. I'm more frustrated as I spent hours comparing reviews and even the biggest apple fanboys were saying it was better than a HomePod. Guess I'll find out tomorrow, not sure what I'm going to do it of that sounds crap as well :p

HomePods arrived and they've been sent back already :( Am I expecting too much? I'm after a similar sound to my Sonos Beam Gen 2 but for my Kitchen. Era 300 was ok but lacked bass/depth like sound bar. Any suggestions ?

Is the issue the room rather than the speaker? Maybe a kitchen is a bit echoey and you're expecting too much?

Could be worth setting up the Beam 2 in there temporarily and seeing if it still sounds as you expect.

I'm currently down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out if 2 x era 100's are better suited to 4x5 m kitchen or 1 Sonos Five. Not after stupid loud or silly bass as I have neighbours, just something which has something about it.

Ended up going to Richersounds as apparently they know what they are talking about ... I knew more than the guy who served me. He suggested some Denon speakers which I was interested in hearing. When I asked to hear them he said they didn't have any power to them

He did manage to get 2 x Era 100 going in stereo after fiddling around for 15 mins. Sounded far better than the 300 I had - went to buy 3, sorry we don't have any in stock and people wonder why the high street is dying.

Could they not have ordered some for you, they have stock, it’s just likely that store didn’t have 3 of them in stock themselves.

Perhaps he meant the Denon speakers were not powered/active speakers meaning they would need an amplifier?

No he said he needed to plug them in :p Surely if you go in to a store, the whole idea is to have one of the most popular speakers in stock.

I mean if it was some £2000 specialist speaker I could understand it but £150 speaker.
