***Official Squad Thread***

That's true but it is also counter productive. The clue is in the name of the game. If IO notice that a squad is generally all over the place instead of clustered I generally more to another squad. You have the most fun when you are running as a pack.

I have seen squad leaders kicking lone wolfs. My worry is that as more people join the game we will get more lone wolfs and squad leaders who don't lead which will really impact the gameplay.

The most fun I have had when playing this game is when you get squad leads who really know what they're doing and lead from the front. It makes a big difference.

I think I will crack 100 hours by the end of this weekend.

yes i can agree but... sometimes if one or two lone wolf for your squad it can work very well. often you can see groups coming so squad focus on them and all hell breaks loose.

then two lone wolfs come from either side undetected and bam bam bam many dead squad moves in ;)

i dont mind either really.

I'm 40 something hours into the game now and really looking forward to the release of vehicles and ieds. Some of the best parts of PR were just those :D

Had a good time on skunkworks last night. Hopefully be on tonight around 7.

As for spotting who to shoot at. It can be a right pain. Easiest are usa vs militia as you're either shooting at uniforms or guys in casuals and turbans. Forest maps with us and Russian gets trickier tho... Especially as sometimes when aiming at a friendly their name may not come up because of the cover you, or they, are behind. Just fire and apologise if needed xD

I also try to stick with the squad but also love pulling off a good flank so usually say I'm going a different way just to let them know, doesn't always work but sometimes get good Intel or best one I had... Came up behind their cap took out 3 guys, destroyed the fob and held it down till the rest of my team pushed up to cap :D

I'm the same, almost 50 hours!? I havent played all my Steam games combined for this length of time.

Also still kill / injure the occasional friendly but its all part of the fun i suppose - and learning to use the map more before you shoot.

Will Insurgents get crappy tanks or no tanks and just RPGs, IEDs and suicide bombers?? It will be interesting to see how the teams are balanced

hopefully be similar to the old PR setup where insurgents get at best a pick up with an MG/Rocket on the back of it... and then a surplus of exploding cars/trucks KABOOOOMMMM! xD where as USA/Russia/whoever else's army get appropriate jeep/apc/tank/transport.

there an update? barely any servers are populated :(

Noticed a lot of the good players know each other from Project Reality.

Any other RO fans hope Tripwire copy the comms system from Squad and use it in Rising Storm 2 Vietnam?

Yes I suspect that most of the really organized leads come from PR. Wish there were more of them to be honest. Most squad leads are pretty rubbish.

Just had an epic game. Squad was running together. We went on the offensive. He spotted that there was a sniper looking in our direction and a full squad on the point so we moved around the back, lined up and cleared room by room. I got to the courtyard and there was 4 of them. Dropped 3 first peak and downed the 4th with an underarm nade. We then took down several squads trying to retake the base and defended tye base the entire game.

This game is amazing when a plan comes together.

My favourite moment so far was playing as a sniper.

Sat on a hill playing as an overwatch for my squad and basically clearing the path ahead of them so they could move into the capture point.

Doesn't sound much but it's one of a few moments I've had in gaming where my actions felt important to others. They relied on me giving them clear instruction of enemies ahead, routes to take etc...

Plus the odd sniper kill is always nice.

Yep I've done that with optics as well. It's fun pinning down an enemy force from a distance while you squad flanks them. Also counter sniping is also fun. I've had some good duels recently.

There is certainly more satisfaction in playing a specific role in this game.

Bullet drop definitely does. Had a fun game last night where I was able to get some interesting flanks, and someone said I was their favorite fruit. I also had a crack at the SAW. I've fired it in real life and it's loads of fun.

One other thing - how awesome is the sound in this game!

Good list of tips I saw on reddit:

In a close firefight, if you're hit, don't immediately go for your bandage. If the enemy is smart, they'll be coming around the corner very soon, especially if your numbers are few. If you're smart and you know you hit someone, expect them to be bandaging themselves, or else not be expecting you to come around the corner (still applies even if you yourself were injured).

If you've just finished a firefight with the enemy and a few of your guys are down, help the medics by bandaging people they have yet to get to. It will save the medics bandages, and speeds up the process of getting the squad back up.
Spread out. Ten to fifteen meters should be between you and all of your squad mates, otherwise there's a great deal of your squad that's within the blast radius of just a single grenade or other explosive device. Spreading out also keeps you safe from getting gunned down one by one with ease as you enter buildings or move into any open area.

When a firefight starts, return fire. Be mindful of which colour your friendlies' tracers are, and fire in the direction of the enemies' tracers, muzzle flashes, and movement. If you don't know where they are, then guess. You have a better chance of surviving a firefight when you lay down suppressive fire than when you rely on luck not to get shot.

In a long range firefight, as soon as your squad pinpoints the position of the enemy with whom you are engaged, the grenadier needs to mark their position with smoke, and then both the grenadier and whoever has the RPG/LAW needs to be using it. I can say, without a doubt, that in a long range firefight the biggest killers are the ACOG sights and explosives.

Medics should never pile up if it can be avoided.

Save your stamina. If you're about to enter an urban area full of enemies, you want to have stamina in case you need to haul ass across a doorway to flank.
In much of the same way, you want to use your stamina getting across places where you're much easier to be seen, like fields.

If you and your squad saw some enemies in a field and opened up on them, but only managed to pin them down, open up on them with the explosives. Do not run out into the field they occupy. If you don't have explosives, circle around to the sides of the field and peek over the walls that enclose it.
If you are that guy who gets pinned in a field, get out of there ASAP. Don't sit in the same place the enemy just watched you drop in, but instead move, bandage up, and crawl to an opening in the enclosed wall.

This one might seem oddly specific, because it is, but if your squad mate just found an enemy FOB and is calling for assistance to dig it up, haul ass. If it's in an enclosed area, like a building inside a compound, just get inside that building as soon as you can and dig it up. Don't take your time, and don't get lost trying to find them. Just check your map and move.

This game looks fantastic! Repalcing my broken headset soon and hope to join the epic battles.

Love the realism and desperate to play that requires a good team planning with voice chat etc

Got to say I'm not playing as much at the minute due to the UK/EU servers mostly being at 72 players for some bizarre reason. 64 slots is really the max you want to be running at this stage of development.

Too much of a performance hit for me to enjoy it with that player number.

The 72 player servers play fine for me. Do you mean in terms of server lag or system spec required / size of maps? I have noticed the average ping for everyone on 72 player servers is usually ~100

At over 60 players the animation system starts to take a massive dump on the fps. There's currently some dubious hit detection on the large servers too.
