No, but gear does help a lot and you can by entry gear for ~300k - I only have 4 pieces of PvP gear and still top a lot of PvP Zones despite having much less expertise (I am tight and getting BAttlemaster first not recruit!)

It is about team work though :)
 
I am on Nightmare Lands - I transferred from Frostclaw; PvE Server.

Yes only through WZ Comms - But Daily/Weekly Quests reward you with Comms

100 Warzone / 100 Ranked = Daily (Play 6 matches, a win counts for 2)
500 Warzone / 500 Ranked = Weekly (Win 9 Matches)

If you get enough trophies etc... you can normally get 100-150 Comms per match also - Chest Pieces ~1450 from memory which are one of the more expensive bits; i've only recently started PvP'ing again though - stopped before I went away in April time so my knowledge may be a bit rusty!

Recruit (Blue Rated) PvP Gear is not WZ Comms but Cash - in 1.3 you will get a token which grants you all PvP Recruit Gear and if you've already bought it a token to return ~300k to you - but its very basic, Battlemaster is what you should aim for until you get enough Valor for War Hero (I think Valor 60??)

I started doing a lot of PvP with my Bounty Hunter when I was still around level 10-15, If I played smart and used what limited skills I had well then I could still come out pretty well. In fact it made me a nice bit of cash and quickly levelled me up to use some basic PvP gear.

You do come across high level players with the best gear who seem to just take loads of punishment from several lower level players and still come out on top.

As mentioned though if you work well as a team you can dominate other people who try going solo, or groups who try to go for all out attack rather than support each other.

Since 1.2, valor rank has been pretty much made worthless. Only the crafted orange pvp sets require it and with 1.3 about to allow putting augment slots on anything, the crafted sets are pointless for the most part.

War hero gear is currently obtained by one of the most stupid grinds ever, until they actually implement ranked warzones you can only get ranked wz comms from the daily/weekly wz quests and you need lots per item (and the battlemaster item for that slot as well)

I have been sinning and dabbling in D3 for a bit but back to burn my way to fame :P

I am still using my Advanced Prototype build and it still seems to be good for me, loving my interrupts burst and survival, any healer will soon remember me as they are my main objective still lol.

Where have you been hiding still roving the galaxy far, far away?

War Hero Gear which is BIS stat wise for PvP still has a Valor Rank though so its not all that useless... :)
 
Only the crafted ones have valor ranks on them, once 1.3 lets you add augments to the normal vendor bought war hero items the crafted stuff (and therefore valor rank) will be completely pointless.

Same build, I'm impressed, it is a good build. :)

I’m not playing as much as before, got myself flying again(Microsoft Flight Sim). I’ve not played my BH for some time. Levelling a Assassin up which I’m really enjoying and also messing about with a IA. I have my toons split between Nightmare Lands and TOFN. Both servers are very good! When LFG tool comes out, I think things will improve even more.

I got a video somewhere of me toying with him healing through his damage while my team mates smacked him down :P
