*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

This has been my arguement. They are saying WOW LOOK ITS STAR WARS!! but it plays just like anything else and looks like everything else? So what really are they offering me apart from a name...

Iconic Story! I love Bioware but after DA2 I am losing my faith in them which is a shame as they have made the only game I ever chucked a sickie for (Baldurs Gate). Graphically it still looked ok I thought for an MMO it was that nothing seem real or moving etc.

A brilliant series of games bioware have made and one bad apple and your right them off.

Any chance the starter can update the first post with known information and any new links/news etc? Much more useful than going through loads of pages going on tangents!

I've not played Mass Effect, so I can't comment on that. However...

BG1+2 were brilliant, true. After that, KotoR, NWN, Dragon Age were certainly not classics in my book.

In fact I found KotoR and DA1 tedious.

Not writing them off just approaching it with scepticism as one should do with any MMO imo and on that live stream there is nothing that looks amazing at all really. Also the space component has always looked ill-placed. I said it will no doubt be a good game but there is nothing there that has that little something that really makes it stand out. At the moment GW2 seems to be innovating where as SWTOR seems to be stagnating in stuff that has already been done. I do worry that EA is pushing Bioware in a direction that will take them away from what they do best.

I like what I "heard" from the recent demo they had, they have obviously thought hard about the MMO market and listened to the feedback they got from the testers (GUI update) & tried to keep it as un-instanced as possible.

Not sure about running instances with 2 people and their pets tho seems a little too easy.

They are going to be cutting it close with a 2011 release, will EA make them release it anyway like DA2?

I doubt it. The initial release date they had was over 12 months ago. They don't appear to be rushing this game in any sense of the word.

It's still down to appear at games conventions well into October / November time, so I'd expect a release around Christmas time.

Do take note they said they have planned to visit events at release and after release, but you're probably right. Heck, ME3 got a release date for march next year but this didn't ;P

At least as far as Operations are concerned you can't use your companions, guess that also applies to Flashpoints too. Also you can't use them in instanced pvp iirc.

Yeah I know you can't use your companions in the 8 Mans as they said the BOT AI is not good enough for that.

They did say that in the 4 -mans however you can use take 4 people or just 2 people with their companions.
