*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Does anyone know any good sites for going through the various classes? I only took part in the two weekends with very little research and I am finding that I need some way to fill my wait :)

Hi there, subscribe to the RSS feeds at these sites for some great articles daily. Many class reviews have already been posted. My favourites are:

http://www.forcejunkies.com/
http://www.askajedi.com/
http://torwars.com/
http://www.darthhater.com/

I've submerged myself in the official forums going over various hybrid heal/dps builds for my soon to be born Operative :D

:)Shout out to all Black Sun Pirates. Are we going to get the forums buzzing soon in the build up to release, get to know each other a bit more. Where are most members checking?

Beyond the clock forums, the official guild forum at swtor or here?

lots and LOTS of quest/content one can solo from my point of view

and you never know, the "grouping" bug might bite you :P

'Can solo' or plays like singleplayer? I have nothing against MMOs but I'm not looking for another atm. I just want KOTOR 3 :(

Though you're right, after a while I'd probably end up... 'socialising' *shudders* ;)

is there enough to the game to keep someone interested who is only after a sequel to KOTOR?

I just want KOTOR 3

I like to think of it like they made KOTOR3, 8 times :)

There's nothing stopping you from playing through the story and most of the side missions solo, just that you happen to be doing at the same time as umpteen other people. And then do it again with one of the other classes ;)

In all my testing over the last two months I grouped up exactly twice, both times for a Flashpoint.

This - you are not forced to group, which I like; sometimes I wanna take my time and explore and not be rushed through things just because my group have done it before. However if i need help or want to group I can!

I grouped for heroics/flashpoints with random - and played what I call co-op with a friend, i.e. we did class/world quests together and levelled - was awesome.

It is in many ways KoToR 3 - the story is there, it's just on a grand scale - I personally love co-op games, I see this as a massive co-op game, and if I fancy some PvP I can head to a warzone (rolling PvE).

Simply Awesome.

/edit

the only thing you will struggle with solo (even with a companion) are the Heroics (2+ are doable solo, sometimes need to be a few levels higher, same with Heroic 4's but considerably higher level) - and flashpoints - but there are only 7 flashpoints so not a massive loss.

torhead.com :)

Thanks for the responses, I'll check both of these out!

Thanks very much for taking the time to put that together for me. I'm sure many others will take advantage of it too :D

I'm not adverse to the idea of a little grouping on occasion. My biggest fear is too many 'kill/collect 100 X' quests that seem to be an MMO staple. The combat was kinda MMO-y in KOTOR so I suspect it's quite similar(?).

One other, slightly random question. Are there vibroblades in game that none-Jedi can use to fight against lightsaber weilders? Also, are the Jedi classes more poweful than the non-Jedi... They should be (Okay, that was two questions).

i think agents got vibroblades

technically no. if the jedi were more powerful the game would be broken in pvp. oddly, the ranged classes are stronger atm but that might change come full release

The dark/light sides are identical.

The skills are just renamed and reanimated for each side.

So you can make an identically skilled and statted char as a Trooper Commando or a Bounty Hunter Mercenary.

The others are mirrors too.

Also, you don't need special weapons to fight someone with a lightsaber.

Roll on release, alcohol ready and supplies still to be got in but can't wait now.

Still have more hidden away, but Christmas and launch should be good this year.

I can't wait to level up the Assassin, do some world pvp and own up the battlegrounds as i did in beta.

Btw where in stirling you from... off-topic sorry:D

I noticed you were from Stirling also:cool: I'm in the new estate near Cornton Primary. Basically heading towards BoA.

What about you?

Subject Change:

Excellent article on Item Modification changes in particular the 'orange' items that you can keep throughout levelling. This is a must read for all.

I just read about map phasing, That sucks big time for me, Less chance to gank and encounter other people :(

It's the one feature that really ***** me off about the game. The funnier thing is all the people who will not here a bad word about the game screaming "it's for the best, all mmo's are run like this now" ...... Errr.... No! Can see good world pvp ruined by people just changing channel to avoid battles/if they are losing

Still will be playing on launch though :p

Only ever saw the starter and captial worlds instanced on the beta weekends when i was on. Only happens where its busy.

Even when it was instancing there was still a couple hundred (or more) people in each instance.
