Official Team Fortress 2 April Update Thread

Does reading this, and the numerous threads on the TF2 Steam forums fill anyone else with the feeling that TF2 may be about to get very very broken?

Going to get even better by the looks of it. Adding Badlands added a little something, but this update along with the new weapons is definitely going to make it feel fresh again.

The only thing that's going to be bad about this update, are people who can't accept change and start asking for vanilla TF2 servers (i.e. the same people who moan about TF2 now and want it to be like TFC).

Having read the details of the achievements, i think its fairly safe to say ill never get the UberSaw... presuming the rumor its the 36 achievement unlock, some of those achievments are just stupid!

Yup, you need all 36 for the Ubersaw.

Looking through the Steam forums.. it would seem that only 5 people in the entire world would have any chance of getting the UberSaw? The games been out 6 months and only 5 people (and these are career medics with like 400 hours play) have got the 10 million heal points.

Thats not to mention the fact that some of the things are just stupid. Uber a heavy as he punches 4 people? Uber a demo as he destroys 8 buildings?! Is destroying 8 buildings in 10 seconds even possible?

Ah well, nice weapon with the uber saw there Valve, shame no one will use it! :)

As they've said, they're going to offer others ways to get the weapons.

And some of them are there just for fun, you shouldn't taken them so serious. Ubering a heavy while he punches 4 people sounds like a fun thing to try and achieve. If you want "Fire a rocket in the general area of the enemy" kind of achievements you need to get on Xbox Live.

Yeah, this is something (else) that worries me. What 'other' ways are there to getting an achivement other than doing it? If Valve decide to charge it will be like commiting game developer suicide!

That's my only worry as well, but I don't see Valve doing that. They're committed to offering free content post launch for their games, so I think we’ll be safe.

Another video on GameVideos (segment apart of the 1UP Show) about the TF2 update, with some first impressions.

They could offer the weapons, if you click a button which loads a quick advert to watch. I've heard this idea thrown around for use in free MMOs.

Could be timed, so after 2-3 months, if you still haven't got them all, they just become unlocked.

Same thing for play time, if after 20 hours (after the update hits) you're still missing the Ubersaw, it just unlocks.

No, I think it should require some dedication to get these options. Watching an advert or waiting just 20 hours would be nothing. Maybe if you have nearly all the achievements (bar 1 or 2) for a certain time period it should count (so that one ridiculously hard achievement wouldn't hold you back forever).

The shotgun is the same for the Engi, Soldier, Heavy and Pyro, and the Pistol the same for the Engi and the Scout. Do you recon we will see an accross the board option for these, or a unique one for each? Personally, i think an accorss the board one. if they can have generic secondaries now, then they should keep some in the new updates.

And on a final note, to end this mamouth post, what the hell are they going to do with the engineer?!?! change his weapons? change the sentries (this would be bad imo)? which is considered his primary? And finally, they CANT change his mele, its a wrench, its needed for his job. I have a feeling this will be a victim of either a 'new skin' wrench that is the same just maybe a shiny tourque wrench or something, or a victim of increased damage at a slower rate, although a slower rate would affect your building speed... AHHH i hope they have someone clever comming up with the Engi unlocks!

on the topic of engies, I think a good replacement for hem would be a more powerful shotgun, but has shorter range/is only more powerful at close range, and does ess damage at long/medium.

As it would suit them well for close up support of their sentries while they work at range. :)

Need every little help at sentries as it's so rare to get a good pro to help out, and also no one but engies ever seam to notice spies and it ****** me off :(

I wub my sentries:D

The topic of the Ubersaw was mentioned on the 1UP podcast last night, and it seems you will need ALL 36 for the Ubersaw just because its that good.
