Official TF2 Update Thread

when i first saw the halo update on the forum i was like....Halo as in Halo 3 halo? i was like wtf how could this go through, thats til i saw that it actually was a halo...on a bit of wire.
but still even tho it does give plus points on finding unlocks i still think hats should not be in the game, imagine what we could had instead of hats... SOLDIER UPDATE?
sry just that i rly dont agree with what valve has done...what is this game for 5 year olds???

sry rage =[

Yeah I totally agree. The Jarate was just toilet humour and the hats are childish. I didn't expect this from such a serious game as it was when I bought it. They need to stop trying to be funny and start adding BF2 weapons etc.

Come on dude lighten up. It's hardly something to rage over.

Well if you idle in a server valve hasn't done anything to you I don't belief. It's only people who have used 3rd party external idling programs that mean you didn't have to have TF2 open. I think that's right any ways :P

Which is a no-no in any situation? I was using Aim-bot in CS:S and I got banned... it was helping me unlock headshots. I think it's great that valve actually did something about this rather than letting it go on adn on so when I trading/crafting system is implemented everything would be worthless.

External idling program is the same as Botting in World of Warcraft O.o = Ban, lucky everyone didn't get banned and just lost their idling items (or was it all items).

Then why didn't they VAC ban us? Simple reason, they make money off of idle servers and it adds to the statistics of people playing. They couldn't care if I went in to a dustbowl server and sat there waiting for an item, why? Because I show as just another person in the game. Course, the community will start whining again soon when the idlers are sat in their servers. Better than doing it where it doesn't effect you though eh?

Comparing this to an aim bot is ridiculous, as what advantages do we really get? Hats are for the most part aesthetic and add no real advantage or disadvantage to the player. Weapons do, however as Tobes stated, a large majority of people already own everything so for me using the idler was a way to catch up without wasting my life on a 4% chance i'd get another backburner.

Also, the trading/crafting system is already worthless as a large majority of people all own the weapons. Why do you think they've started on hats? They're rare, therefore only a few people will have them, therefore they may be worth trading. Thing is, who is going to want to trade them? Even if someone had a duplicate they're going to want something in return. Uh oh, new problem Valve. People with hats only trading with other people who have hats!

A good percentage of players actually want TF2 to by partially MMO based, not including myself. It does seem to be going slightly over the top but I think it's still great adding all this +5 style weapons along with hats etc. They are just a little slow at it :P

I wouldn't say its a good percentage of players. Most of the clans I know and play with feel the balance of the game started to go downhill once they added RPG elements. It will only really be restored when every class has unlockables and players have a decent way to achieve them.

Just like Graeme, it seems you don't have a clue either.

They're trying to compete with Battlefield Heroes. I don't know why though. General opinion is that Heroes doesn't cut the mustard and we all know how people feel about mustard on this forum.

Exactly, all this dropping junk is just pointless. It feels so much better to have achieved something, rather than waiting on a system to give you the drops like a hat which is pretty random and dull. You know how the saying goes "if it ain broke, don't fix it" Valve seem to have an unbreakable habit of tweaking, playing around with features of otherwise perfect multiplayer games, I mean look at Counter-Strike. It's always about making the game more accessible for new people and giving them everything and more when they first play the game, rather than say allowing them to earn their skill or achievements...

You know, you could just play the game and get the weapons you want by completing achievements (like the majority of us did) rather than coming into the game and expecting to get everything for no effort by using an idling program.

For the most part unlocked weapons don't give players a distinct advantage over the standard loadout, they all have disadvantages.

I got all my unlocked weapons from achievements, aside from the spy, that I'm terminally bad with. I've never really taken the time to get to grips with it. But aside from the medic, most of my loadout is the default gear. They aren't clear upgrades that put anyone at a disadvantage.

I don't think you're right saying the majority of us got the unlocks though achievements. I certainly got weapons through achievements, but not all of them. It was becoming a nightmare waiting for the cloak and dagger that the only way it seemed I would get it would be if I idled.

Now if the weapon drop system didn't give duplicates I'd be far less inclined to idle.

I got the Medic, Heavy and Pyro weapons via achievements so it looks like i'm a part of your majority. If you read my posts you'll see that i've been playing since day one and have not just "come in to the game" expecting everything for free. I like effort, its fun. What I don't like is a mind numbing grind when all I want to do is play the freaking game. I rarely play Heavy, so getting the achievements to unlocked a Sandwich was the point at which I began to ask myself why I was bothering. I must have spent 20+ hours getting everything as I did those achievements in game. How many of you used achievement maps that are for the most part, frowned upon?

Read my other posts for why I hate this new system, rather than just the one.

For the most part unlocked weapons do give players an advantage as when used tactically, they can help teams to steamroll through maps. Yes they all have disadvantages, but they also have major advantages on certain maps.

I assumed you were a newer player since you stated you were catching up with the majority who had already unlocked weapons. (I'd have thought any player who had been there from the start would have the majority of weapons by now).

If you just want to 'play the feaking game'; how about you just play it and don't get yourself worked up over the unlock system? :) Taking your mention of the Heavy unlock as an example I can't see why you put so much effort in for a unlock for a class you hardly play.

I took a few months off due to Uni work. Just frustrating to come back to a completely different game.

I put so much effort in to getting the Heavy's items so if needed, I can play as a Heavy for team and utilise the full loadout rather than being pidgeonholed by the standard weapons. I refuse to go in to servers and just play for achievements because when done to me, it ruins the game. I try to play to help others whilst also helping myself and its an extremely difficult system. The random drop system would be perfect for someone like me, if trading was implemented and dupes rare.

If you can't get the majority of these http://www.steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/kgb.htm achievemnts just by playing normally then u don't deserve any new weapons because you clearly haven't been able to master the default ones yet.

A winrar is you.

Before you ask, i've done some of the Scout achievements and none of the Spy or Sniper. Why? Because I only enjoy the grind in mmo's.

The drop system absolutely sucks, but so do certain classes new weapons... in fact I don't like most of the new weapons.

The achievement unlock system was the best by far, though.
If you didn't play the class you wouldn't unlock things for it. I could live without having any of the new scout items, or any of the new medic items or even heavy items.
I can see how the updates have brought along imbalances, but to a certain extent all classes have their 'anti-classes' i.e. demomen > engineers >... etc.

TF2 is still very well balanced imo... look at the official stats - the 3 least played classes are all ones which have had updates (scout, medic, heavy)... i'd hardly say they have any significant advantage because of the updates

The drop system is awful, I don't have most of the items and it hasn't given me anything today or yesterday.

Had a great game with pyro earlier.
Nothing better than catching a massive blob of them from behind and critting all hell out of them :D
