** Official Thread for those attending the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone **

I was in Stowe Lakeside (Constructors Lounge) so we had a terrace all the way from Stowe down vale and sat in the grandstand on the inside of the track at club. It was an awesome place to sit and was good for overtaking action in all races that weekend.

Did you buy them from silverstone themselves? :)

OK i've just got off the phone to Silverstone themselves and the woman I spoke to is adamant and stated clearly that all I will need to get into the Hospitality area and enjoy the VIP access is the tickets I have. I asked her three times if that was definitely correct - that I would just need to bring both tickets, and solely both tickets - no lanyards, vip passes etc. and she affirmed that that is the case and that I will be given lanyards etc. on arrival once I have presented the tickets.

And I'm still no less confused.

So what happened? Did you manage to get into the centre and go VIP?

Not quite !

We got into the circuit fine, got into the centre of the circuit fine too - the guy before Copse tunnel looked at our tickets and exclaimed at how lucky we were !

At that point I felt like this could be my lucky day.

Once out of the tunnel we quickly noticed the Silverstone Six area and headed for it. Then our smiles turned to frowns when we saw the bouncers/ security men suited and booted with shades on, looking like G-Men.

I thought no way, we're never getting in there. Anyway, cos the missus has a prettier face I handed her the tickets and we went for it.

They asked to see our VIP passes to which we told them they were at home and he said "ahhh nevermind", smiled and told us to come in.

At that point I thought wahey we're getting in!!! :D

Then he said "stand over here just a minute please and I'll get someone to assist you"...

Then I realised we were not getting in ! :( :)

This lady came down with a massive guest book and asked for a name so I gave her one, she said he wasn't listed, went off for 10 minutes, left us standing there like muppets and came back eventually saying that we couldn't get in and that she'd have to keep our tickets !!!

We gave it a try - albeit rather naively on reflection :)

So then we just went and sat on the banking after Copse corner and then I thought, wait a minute why sit here when we can go and sit anywhere (virtually) in the centre.

So we wandered off and decided to pitch up on the bridge at Wellington Straight, looking towards Luffield.

It was a great spot to watch the race from. The sound of the cars was immense - far noiser than viewing from the GA area at Becketts where we sat infront of the grandstand the last two years.

Also quite a few overtakes at the end of the straight so it was nice to see them.

It was also nice to see the cars in the wet - both last years have been in the dry at Silverstone. When the spits of rain came down before the race I was grinning from ear to ear.

Another great day out. I'd never pay £1,000 for a Silverstone Six ticket though, if I could get general admission centre access every year I'd be just fine :)

Funnily enough after our experience with Silverstone Six, me and my mate are buying GA tickets next year. We wondered if it would be worth the price tag if we had bought the tickets and half way through the day, before race had even started the answer was "hell yes". You get a HELL of a lot for your money.
So for the hospitality we had food and drink on tap all day, private grandstand and what not - then you add obviously the races, the hugely impressive (and long!) Red Arrows display, the afterparty, the facilities, access to just about every important part of the circuit. Worth well over the cost of the ticket IMO.
So for general admission you're looking at £135 then another £45 if you want to park on site. That's still not that bad tbh - get there early enough (we arrived at 6:20) and you have the pick of where you want to sit.

And yeah, the guys at Silverstone Six never asked for our tickets, just the passes. The people on the grandstand only looked at tickets for seat numbers. They needed names for the allocated tables in the hospitality area.

Yeah the unfortunate thing was that you could only get to the grandstand by passing through the VIP checks at the Silverstone Six tunnel.

I'm still not convinced about the prices though - for a cool £2,000 (still under the price of 2 S6 Hosp. tickets) you can buy a pretty decent second hand motor. I bought my mk3 mondeo with 69k on the clock for 2.5k a couple of years ago.

In my view the cost isn't justified, but I guess it depends what your bank accounts look like :)

Glad you had a good day anyway, the cars going through Maggots/ Becketts is something to behold eh

Did anyone get any picture of alonso missing the drivers parade truck??,by time id got my camera out the bag it was over,no body seems to have reported it on any f1 websites.
Was quite funny as he was running up the track after the truck just after he jumped out of the ferrari 375 f1 and the truck just kept going, in the end the medical car hooted at him and gave him a lift to the truck which eventually stopped just before abbey the stadium was alive with laughter as was alonso himself hehe.

I got the impression it was because he was supposed to do 1 demo lap in the ferrari 375 f1 and did 2 instead, because as he came round after his first lap the guys in the pits looked kinda bemused as he carried on for a 2nd lap i could be wrong though.....

The photographers are hilarious. I mean just how many pics of the guy do you need? They even crowd round as he gets in the car and then another couple of quick shots through the window as it drives off!
