*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

I know this is going off on a tangent now, but the issue with the UniFi Discord is that it asks me to verify my phone number to join the server, then when I put my phone number in, it says it's already assinged to an account. This is all while logged into my account anyway :/

Sounds like the number could be linked to another account? If you go on Discord settings -> My Account, do you see your number in your profile?

I live and work on a farm where I would like to be able to pick up my home WiFi. I'm on a BT FTTP system which is pretty fast.
Could someone recommend an WiFi extender so I could pick up my home network please.
My home and work are about 100 - 150 yards apart.
I'm not sure what hardware I need!

Are you able to dig fibre between the locations?

No, I'm just after a WiFi signal from my home. In my ignorance I just thought I could get some sort of outdoor aerial type thing to pick my signal up

That's a big distance (for home wifi gear which is regulated by law in terms of power levels). You could do a point to point wifi connection and then have an AP in the barn, or dig a fibre underground and then install an AP.

If you can't hard wire it then you want a point to point wireless link with an access point on the end of it.

There are a few different systems and Ubiquiti sells some if that's your brand of choice.

Not cheap but probably cheaper and easier than trenching in a hard wire between the two sites.

I've had great experience with them inside houses before.

Outbuildings on a farm have to get the power from somewhere, the cables don't usually magically appear with their own connection to the grid. At least not on the last couple of farms I've been on. Obviously depends on the size and scale of the place and the order things were built. Probably won't be on the same ring, but not sure how powerline connectors work across different rings in a single consumer unit, or if that's even possible.

The solution has already been posted a couple of times. If you can’t lay wires then you’ll want a point to point wireless bridge and a standard access point at the other end. You’ll need direct line of sight for the two base stations to work.

As this is the Ubiquiti thread, here is their product but others are available. https://www.4gon.co.uk/ubiquiti-unifi-buildingtobuilding-bridge-ubb-p-8560.html

You’ll still need power at the other end and if you haven’t got power, a battery (E.g. Jackery) and a couple of solar panels should cover it easily.

There are directional WiFi access points but I think you are asking a lot for them to work at over 150 yards at ground level which will include obstacles like walls etc.

I should add, I’ve not used this type of product but others in this thread will have.

Now resolved... Seems I had 2 accounts, 1 with just my email, and 1 with just my mobile. Now consolidated to just the 1 account :D

Guys, I cannot lay cables of any sort.
I was only hoping for a fast fix with a sort of outdoor aerial thing so I can pick up a signal.
MikroTik Wireless Wire. Full 1Gbps connection between two points. They do various flavours from roughly 200m to 2000m and they just work. No configuration, just plug them into your network, point them at each other and they work.

A quick question with regards to the udm pro, the house has BT fibre with a 1gb connection from an ONC? socket on the wall. As the lan is running at 1gb also when the network is busy it seems to be slowing the internet connection down.
Is it worth running from the ONC directly to the udm pro using the SFP socket via a sfp module? is this possible and will it make sure the connection makes its 1gb across the network ? i could then also out put from my witch via sfp across cat6? to 10gb nic inside the pcs?

Sorry new to 10gm networking and the udm... and more.

Thanks

Anyone done much with Unifi Protect? Considering moving from Ring to Unifi Protect. I have a CKG2 Plus already, but aware that of the NVR unit too.

Yup, I have two cameras and will be getting their doorbell soon. I've installed a homebridge docker on my Synology NAS and I can view the cameras in my Apple Home App, and I stream the recordings to Surveillance Station as a backup.
