Sorry man! I think you are doing the right thing though- VRM temps are important for overclocking stability and can kill a card just as easy if not maintained well.

Never really push these cards till I started to rebuild mine.

According to GPUZ vrm's where hitting 120 plus (Idoubt they where that hot but)

As I don't know how accurate that is - I'm done till I know more

Ouch , yes pay to play it safe until you can see if its accurate or what
Still you have done Very Well good work!

Yikes! GPU-z is pretty accurate for the Classifieds. I checked temps reported by GPU-z vs an IR thermometer and they were close enough. 120 C is a bit much for benching, I would say.

After checking the vrm temps :(

I think this will be the end of playing with fire

This as got my interest is pushing cards again.

May just have to treat myself to a test bench set up with a Matrix card :D

I take it thats with the hydrocopper blocks?? The EK ones are ment to cool the vrm's much better. Core temps will be very similar though and this is from what i have read.

It was fun whilst it lasted :D

Aye, they aren't that good by all accounts and this proves it :(

A good cheap remedy would be to get 1-2 of the scythe GT 5400rpm fans i used these when i had my 7970 lightning, these can push some serious air and blasting them at the vrm area the temps would not budge, highly recommended.

Edit:meh just had a look and there no longer available

Why oh why are the best fans on the planet (gentle typhoons) not made any more, what a shame :(

Funny this watching him hold it down!

Won't help with the HC blocks as they cover up the entire card. That's a good idea with the EK blocks though- it has helped me a lot.

Well after a bit of research (well googling) it seems that the vrms are cooled by the loop.

So never to be one to shy away I ran the bench again and used HW to monitor temps.

GPUZ had card 1 at over 400 deg :D and card 2 at 67 deg on the vrms.

HW had the following.

HW seems to be quite accurate with reporting voltages that where applied.

So looking at report vrm temps, it looks like they are reasonably cooled.

Hehe, I have mine set to 160% @ 1.212v just for the sake of it, but that's :D.

Clocked another run. Neil, those timings seem to be working :) Cheers

Although this run was at 1375 @ 1.212v. EFFICIENCY SUPREME.
