Official Xbench Results Thread

Just installed the RAID drives, and updated to 10.5.3

Single drive + 8GB RAM: 227
Single drive + 16GB RAM: 225
Dual drive Raid 0 + 16GB RAM: 259

Detailed comparison; http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc2=279857

Single drive + 8GB RAM Vs. Dual drive RAID 0 + 16GB RAM (The biggest jump in spec!)

It seems that RAM gives little, or no advantage for Xbench, where a faster drive improves things significantly!

It's a speed test first and foremost. The AJA System Test should show the benefit of stupid amounts of RAM ;)

Can you run XBench again with just the drive test? That'll give the best comparison of the drives.

Jealous at the ~300MB/s write :o So tempted to put together an eSATA raid :D

Just put a new HDD and RAM in my MBP.

Spec now is: 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 200GB 7,200rpm HDD, 8600GT M, 15" screen.

This is after a fresh install and restart.

How did you find the upgrade process?

Looks quite straightforward, just a load of screws!

Was actually VERY easy to do!

No way near as complicated as you would think looking at the upgrade guides. Whole upgrade process took about 30 minutes. Just have to be careful when unplugging the little connectors on the HDD.

Will rip it apart again soon and write a how to guide for the sticky and the blog on it :)

I installed Leo on my pc and got just over 135, spec:

E6420 at stock (2.16g)
4GB ram
8800GTS 512
Samsung 500GB

Runs very nicely, looking forward to getting a MBP in August.
