Well today I have learnt that iPhones were not designed to - a) be water proof and b) float. I found this out by dropping it in the toilet

I've used a hair dryer, oven and have now put it in some moisture absorber thing! Hopefully it will fix it otherwise i'll have to spend £££ getting a new phone!

Please put all pwned, haha and other comments below.

Thank you.

:(

P.S. it was clean water, not dirty water!

Unlucky :p

As said already, put it in an airing cupboard for a few days and dont try to turn it on, it might be fine.

I thought the majority of phones can sustain a quick dip in water? or was it submerged for quite a long length of time? Can you claim on insurance?

Also i remembered one time that one of my blackberrys broke for an unknown reason when i phoned up to get it replaced the guy on the other end of the phone asked me to identify a little white square inside the phone (when you take the battery out) i guess its like litmus paper and it changes colour if been in contact with water so if all else fails with getting it sorted see if that is there find out what the colour of it used to be and be crafty and colour it to the original colour it used to be or something and voila hopefully apple wont realise... hope you get it sorted though!

p.s. just think though if it means replacing it you can get the better desire hd ;-)

I have no rice or an airing cupboard.

I have some home dehumidifier which I've put it in - hopefully that'll work just as well!

There are three or four of those indicators in the 3G/3GS and I'd imagine the 4 is similar. Apple don't make them easy to get at either (e.g. down inside the headphone socket). So, chances are they'll spot it. Unless of course it's insured.

Edit - keep it warm and dry for several days, but don't use direct heat. Anything absorbent will help.

In case you're interested - I-phones have a strip of paper in them which if they EVER get wet, turn blue permanently.

In other words, sending back to Iphone saying 'It's buggered, but I didn't get it wet it just died honest guv gimme a new one' will get you precisely no-where :(

Never heard of this blue strip, but the moisture sensors are extremely well documented.

It's not a blue strip, there's several small white sensors which will turn pink if wet (or controversially, too moist, even if not submerged). One in the headphone jack, one in the dock port, and I think one (possibly two) within the depths of the phone.

On the one hand I understand why they're there obviously, but there are MANY reports of them being crazy sensitive.

I've heard they are ridiculously sensitive too, just being in a damp atmosphere (say a kitchen with a few pans on the boil) can trigger them and Apple will ditch any warranty claims due to the phone being water damaged.
