Oh my the dust!!

when i had my old comp in my bed room it was like that, i didnt have filters so it was my cpu and graphics card got the worst of it. had to clean about once a month.

ive put it down to antiperspirant and other deorderants being sprayed in the room.

Mine was like that, although i think my thermaltake xaser III wins, 4 80mm delta's and after 5 months i heat issues arise so i decided to clean it.

Holy crap.

No wonder the fans were starved of air, there was about 3/4cm of dust on the meshes!

Hey I didn't think about the deodrants, I should start spraying in my bathroom, thanks for that. :)

That's interesting, I've recently de-dusted my case out, and the dust had a very obvious 'soapy scented' smell and taste, more like washing powder.

Call that dust? THIS is dust

taste??? where you licking the components to clean them? lol :p

I made the fatal mistake of blowing some bits and was enveloped in a cloud of dust, can't help tasting it ;)

This is my mates case fan on his window and trust me you should see the rest of it!

Do you people have all your fans filtered??

Or just some of them?

Only have 2 fans. One intake one exhaust. Intake is covered by an Akasa 120mm filter, can be bought very cheap if you look around.

2 fans in my p180 top chamber exhast only but the intake is filtered and the lower chamber intake is filtered but they still accumalate a lot of dust though since there are 2 cats in the house

I have 8 fans in my stacker, only 1 has a filter on it, 2 others have a fine mesh which helps a little but doesnt have a major effect.

The dust is unbelievable

Currently got one 5v fan in my S80 run as an exhaust at the back, the intake has to go through side mesh, a towel and then two fan filters. :p

No dust at all really, the main airflow in to the case it through a bath towel so I would not expect any.

I HATE that type of dust - its the stuff that covers your components and it is very difficult to get off. My stacker seems to collect it on the front mesh. It originally had the whole front covered in a sponge to catch dust which I ripped out as it was impossible to clean properly.

I couldn't get stock case filters for my old case, so I used cooker hood filter material (not the charcoal ones) from my local domestic goods retailer. I just cut the material to shape over the fan intake areas. Cheap and being deep they are extremely efficient. So cheap that when the filter musses up I just throw it and fit new bits. I got 3 folks in my house, including a chain-smoker in the next room and a dog, so I need filters alright :p

Don't ever breath the dust when you clean/airblow -some bacterial nightmares and carcigens can lurk in household dust. I always hold my breath and then scarper for 10 minutes to let escaped dust settle.

LOL, youll be wearing full hazard protection suit next. I just remove the filter bat it outside then wizz it in the wash, comes out good as new.
