Ok so I have designed something - now for the big time

A toy that's suitable for big kids as well as little ones and it can be made with a laser cutter......hmmmmm..........


The thing is, if I had the ingenuity to figure out what it was I'd be so ****** off that I hadn't thought of it first :p
 
This is going to be some seriously delayed gratification for a thread. Oh well, put me down for a claim on 1-4 please :)

Congrats on all the success so far - it's nice to see even in this **** economy having a good idea is still worth something!

The laser is used for prototyping. There is still a lot of model making done by hand. For example the 1st idea was mostly done on the laser, the 2nd was fabbed by hand with a few small jobs on the laser. The other idea is basically a hack of an existing product, which serves as the base for the innovation we have applied to it.

Having the laser simply means that I can get accurate things made up quickly. In some cases I can have parts in my hand in mins, something otherwise would take loads longer if cut by hand. Also I get repeatability, so cut one - cut another etc...

As for the economy, toys always do well :-) The last option we got was tens of thousands :-) This is a payment so we don't show anyone else, then an advance is paid on a deal, then each quarter you get royalty payments of trade sales. These are normally penny's, but for an example each unit makes you 30p, and they sell 4 million worldwide. All adds up!

At the moment, if all goes to plan, I will have possible 3 products retailing, all by 2012 xmas - this time next year Rodders...

Being made redundant was the best thing to ever happen to me!

Not that I'm a toy designer or anything so it'll never happent o me but am interested in this option thing. Basically what you're saying is they just say, "we'll give you £xxxx if you don't show anyone else this design while we think about it". They then pay you the amount, is that money completely yours then? If they do decide to go ahead, does the option money then become part of the pay ment they give you or is it completely separate?

That must be seriously exciting!!!

Of course if all goes well and you do get rich, you can also work on raising your profile and writing a book about how you went from "rags to riches"...etc etc. Potential extra income stream!

My guess is some kind of improved fleshlight??? ;)
