The platters are now coasters, the grandchildren are enjoying the magnets, the pcbs have been recycled with electrical waste and the aluminium bodies, and steel covers will go in the metal skip. JOB DONE!
Once when i was bored at work, which is often, i took a drive apart.. put a smiley on it with a felt pen and then we had bets in the office to see how long it would take scandisk to give up - it actually booted, and tried bless it but nope it gave up after an hour of frantic head movement.
That was also the same day i took an old slot 1 celeron, taped over the power shut off connector and boiled it so hard it had the solder come out from the bottom ... funnily enough it too didnt work again.
nice. Are the magnets any good/useful? I don't think that I have seen a HDD magnet. Perhaps next time I have a HDD for disposal I will open it up.
