I'm really proud of myself, I've been keeping up my fitness and strength straining and I've gone from over 15 stone, to just over 13 stone while losing a lot of upper fat. However the winter blues and old age sucks *** The two days I have as rest days, and my back decides to go and I can't turn my neck

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY :(

That is just life. :D

I have not had that many injuries from the gym, but my most painful stuff has been from just leaning over or whatever...

I've managed to do my neck in while sleeping more than once. To the point I couldn't turn it to reverse the car. Maybe I need a better pillow but it never used to happen in my younger days. Well done on losing 2 stone though.

Something I find kind of relevant to this thread - if you do much driving it can be amazing how much difference your seating position and posture can make - for a long time I hadn't made the connection with getting a stiff left shoulder and resulting dull headaches and that I was leaning forwards slightly driving one vehicle.

Annoying isn't it. Motorcycle accident, mountain bike accidentS, battered on a football pitch etc.... no issues.
Pick up a toddler at a slightly strange angle - BAM
Stretch whilst opening a window - BAM
Do apparently nothing - BAM

It’s tough. I’m still strong, but it’s becoming tougher to keep lifting and adding weight. I can’t keep the intensity anywhere near where it used to be. Could easily manage 7-8 days in a row powerlifting in the gym, even up to mid 30s. Late 30s and I’m lucky if I can manage 3-4. Plenty of movements I just can’t do anymore either. Every few years another one has to be taken out of my routine.

Yes, I have noticed that drop-off [in my lifting]... it is quite something.

49 here, fittest I've ever been at 12stone, down from 16. Very proud.

Sat in my brother in laws Merc hybrid car last week and got out of the low passenger seat too fast = Back ache! I've been walking around like Victor Meldrew for a week now. It's subsiding so I can get back to my morning run sessions thankfully.

I had an issue 10 years ago which the doctors put down to gout and my knee swelled up the size of a mini rugby ball, then my other knees and then my elbows so I looked like the Michelin man's long lost cousin. :D

Fast forward to last week and my left knee started getting stiff and now I can hardly move it. :( no pain, which is good, but been taking my tablets and for 10 years, almost exactly, I've had no issues until now. Just hope it's another one off and this isn't a thing every year now. Haven't been massively drinking at all or doing anything I could say should set it off.

I've had the stiff neck issue a few times from leaning or doing something mundane you don't even realised what's caused it!

I’m 60 next year and every little scratch takes way, way longer to heal than they used to.

Currently slowly re-learning to use my right index finger now it’s fully healed from my almost losing the end of it to a ladder

It sure does. When you get an injury it really does put your general health into perspective.

I try to train and exercise for 30 mins 5 days a week. And spend 5 mins stretching at least twice a day. A good dynamic stretch feels amazing and refreshing.

What stretching exercises do you do? I keep thinking this is the key to pulling less muscles and feeling... stiff... but I need to find some good ones to throw in the mix. My current go to is leg out on the 4th step up and lean forwards slightly to stretch my lower back.

Yeah totally sucks, in my late 30`s I developed asthma and about a decade before that hayfeaver and before that tinitus.

It all adds up over time until you have a bunch of issues that all combine to make your life a misery.

Anything that can stretch my back upper and lower. So touch my toes, swing my opposite arm and leg towards each other, bent over hip swivel kinda thing. Mostly all kinetic actions.

Also swing the legs 10 reps per leg.

All sound a bit meaningless. You really nned a demo to see the movements.
