old counter strike players?

Not sure what we were banned for that time... they must not have been enjoying the fish :(

Use of fullbright h4x ? :D

Played on wireplay from the very first beta. Was in MAIcs and Rentaghost clans. Really was a cool little community around that game in the early days.

I do miss the old communities that surrounded CS - Wireplay was my first and then moved on to BYGames when it opened. I never really checked out Barrysworld until I started to play DAoC!

Obviously they are all long gone (or a shadow of their former self) are there any replacements around these days? CS isn't the same without the community aspect IMHO.

Your best bet is to try random clan servers, and try and frequent them...That's what I used to do, eventually became friendly with a couple and joined up :)

It's just more fun if you know more people really.

Cheers, I'll take a look around the clan servers. I'm getting pretty fed up of 30+ man servers with loads of sounds and stupid scripts, I am used to 16/24 man servers with no addons (there were no addon's back then I don't think :p) from the days of old.

Also, where is all of the action happening for pickups (are they still called pickups?) on mIRC these days?

Pickups meaning? I used to join public 'match' games on mIRC once upon a time, I'm sure there are still channels around though. Couldn't help you finding them sadly :p

In my mind pick ups are either:

Two clans setting up a match on the fly, no prior arrangement.
Group of players set up a 5v5/6v6 match on the fly via an mIRC channel.

Pretty sure they used to be called pickups, could be wrong though :p

Before i chucked cs after many years i used to be in a clan called sIQ| - but we only played for fun (just tags and and had a laugh) had a website and forum .. mostly on jolt servers (i was a dust whore :o ) har jolt 7.

Used to play a lot of maps but after years it got narrowed down to dust/2/aztec.

Step 1. Find a server that has good banter
Step 2. Pwn Noobs
Step 3. Make friends
Step 4. Get Vent/TS2
Step 5. Start playing in mixes (pickup meetings in other words where small networks of people play semi-serious) and brushes (8 players needed, 3 CT's hold bombsite B, no flashes allowed generally)
Step 6. Get noticed/start your own clan
Step 7. Fish in B.

A lady I know actually has just setup her own 1.6 server with no mods on. I'll post the IP when I'm back near a steam account.

No inferno (infishno) or nuke (serious fisherman love this map)?

Paw.

Ah yes, when I played via mIRC with a couple of friends they were called mixes as posted above ^^^ :)

Pretty sure there will still be channels around catering for this....Think I used to be on some barrys world ones.

Used to have so much banter over mIRC :D Great little thing.

Both excellent :)

I used to absoloutely LOVE Nuke for matches.....So many little tricks you could do.

Even simple ones like throwing smokes round the corner instead of flashes :D hehe

I used to love doing that and then charging right in behind it and catching people turned away. :D
