Old CPUs and GPUs not really an issue in the real world

3770k, RX6600 and TBH I'll upgrade more out of fear of component failure than pure need.

The problem with holidays is that a grand or two will last you for a few days, but an upgrade will grant you several years of enjoyment.

Disagree there, my last overseas holiday was a few years back, it cost me far less than a full system update but certainly did far more good to my state of mind than a few extra FPS or slightly better boot time ever will.

It's really more down to the refresh rate of the display than the resolution of it if the CPU bottleneck would be an issue.

For majority of the games if only using 60Hz monitor, decade old overclocked 4 cores Sandbridge would still be alright; but for display with 100Hz or above, the CPU bottleneck would be far more apparent, as it is no longer the case of dropping from 60fps down to 40fps here and there, but from 100+ fps down to 40fps within split-second.

i keep good records and bench marks on my new builds - upgrades etc over the many years that i have been building gaming rigs and i have to say for the extra money you spend you do not get back much in the way of performance but so what i love building and tweaking PC`s

My hand me down rig had an E3-1270 4 core 5/10 year old CPU with a 2070s scored 5000 ish in the heaven bench, upgraded it to a B550 mobo and my old 3700x cpu same 2070s...new score...? 5300. My son who plays fortnight on it cannot tell the difference...neither can I to be honest
Also cyberpunk...been playing it on my 4090 with ray tracing off...switched it on...kids couldnt tell the difference...to be honest I wasnt sure I could either...its is smother sort of and you do notice it a bit of u look for it but the game play/enjoyment if it wasnt there...would you notice?

Its why kids look at fps meters but fail to understand they cant see and feel a difference between 30fps.

You want a good gaming experience, the cpu like 5800x3d or upcoming 7800x3d is superior as the min fps stays higher than intel cpus can.
You play any multiplayer game like world of warcraft etc..you want amd c3d cpus.

I recently replaced my vega56 2 days ago with a 6700xt.
I double the fps in games I play.
So, i can crank up the visuals a bit and still have more fps than with the older card.
Now, I have a difference I can see and feel.

Next I upgrade my 7600x to 7800x3d at some point this year as some games I play crush anything Intel has for lower cost.
I gain a better gaming experience due to min fps goes up giving a overall better gaming experience you can actually feel.
You dont feel the fps but can feel the latency hit Intel cpus has due to a lack of game cache.

x3d cpu is important usually more for the improved ipc lift for one and two cores for gaming and the extra cache.
More than a 4090 actually.

This is about the only reason I'll be upgrading my main system - the guts of it like the motherboard and RAM, etc. are 10 years old though I've changed the CPU out for a slightly newer Xeon and the GPU is on a 3070. Problem is newer hardware really needs Windows 10/11 and it is utterly worthless for the main stuff I spend my time doing - I already have newer hardware on Windows 10 which doesn't get used because it is a sub-standard experience for what I do.
