Old PC upgrade suggestions

My mobo has 1x16 PCie slot looking at this - https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-MSI/P67A-GD65_(B3).html

Quartz was referring to the cards themselves, practically all motherboards have a 16 lane slot.

Your board says PCI-E 2.0, but your CPU is actually PCI-E 3.0, though I think there were some that supported PCI-E 3.0 with a BIOS update.

It is irrelevant to the 3060 and 6700 XT anyway because they both have the full 16 lanes so they'll lose very little performance.

It's also worth noting that if you enjoy Fallout 4, you might very much enjoy the upcoming Starfield as it's by the same developers (Bethesda). Their games all tend to be similar in many respects, in which case the 6700XT comes with a copy and should offer better performance than the 3060 on top.

I'm not sure the extra cost is worth the extra performance in getting a 6700 XT or is it?
The 6700XT is 30% faster than a 3060, it also comes with starfield which you can sell for 40 quid on MM if you dont want the game.

AMD cards also have less driver overhead and due to this work better with older CPU's.

Lets assume i want to play Starfield next, I'll need a new PC for that. Can you recommend a CPU, mobo, RAM, NVME & GPX for £1500

The thread is quite long, is your case for this upgrade: Corsair 650D and PSU RM850?

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,437.90 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Cooler: this (under £50).

Over half the cost for that build is the GFX. Would something like this be ok?

If you're playing at 1080p or 1440p, it is enough. For 4K, I'd get the 7900 XT.

HUB's opinion is that the 7700 XT doesn't really make sense when it is priced so closely to the 7800 XT, though I believe it was in LTT's review, that the 7700 XT seemed to be underperforming (they hypothesised that the driver is bugged and isn't using all of the memory).

I currently game at 1440p.

What PSU and cooler would you recommend for that setup?

Which spec? 13700F and 7700 XT, or?

Thermalright's peerless assassin is what I'd buy for any CPU up to a 13700F. With a 7700 or 7900 non-X I'd also consider using the wraith prism they come with.

PSU: personally I'd just reuse your RM850, but otherwise: I'd suggest 750 or higher for the 7700/7800 XT. 850 or higher for a 7900 XT.
