Right, i'm getting bored... as i very frequently do ;)

somebody told me to take up a hobby, but i already have plenty, overclocking being one of them (if that counts)

i'm looking to buy/put together a really old school system (under a Ghz :p somewhere around the 800mhz mark) on the cheap, to overclock and just have some fun with... push it till it squeals etc.

what are the best last gen boards and chips for clocking?

Cheers

I am thinking something like the DFI nforce2 lanparty board (or the abit nf7 i think) and a duron 800mhz :D
Maybe a Duron 1ghz because of the 10x multi you might be able to get quite a good OC, using something like the big typhoon for cooling

damn, socket A is pretty old skool ;)
Was thinking the best bits you get to max out the old chip, maybe the thermalright ALX800 (i think) cooler and a 90mm fan for cooling. Saw it somewhere for under 10 quid.
As for the motherboard i dont know, would probably need to be Nforce 2, as thats the only decent clocking chipset for socket A

i guess i could just get some more for this machine and push it a little further :p
i stopped pushing this one when it didnt boot for a day because of over-overclocking :p

thats why i want an old machine, so that i can push it without worrying about it kicking the bucket completely.

I have an ASUS a7n8x-x board and a sempron lying around. I think its stock 1500MHz, and I got it up to 2.2 GHz before I got my new pc. If you want them my msn is in my trust.

i once hooked up an old k6 400 to my water cooling to seen if i could get away with putting 2.6v through it, as my motherboard went straight from 2.2 to 2.6 lol

no post :( lol

careful because not all nf2 boards like old cpus, my k7n2gm2 didnt like y duron 650 (before it was dead)

Get an XP...and try unlocking it like the old times...god i had fun with them...you know...filling their pits with something not conductive...then using silver conductive paint to connect their bridges...latest ones were mad clockers too so you will get a cheapo system and transform it into a little beast...

DDR ram would be great too....KR7A R would be a good choise too..

man i loved those days...get a soldering iron some VRs and start volt modding...a multimeter would be usefull too...

Air cooling with various fan combinations would be nice too....

let us know how you get on :D (too....how many times did i wrote that lol...)
