Old skool: What was your first 3D card and game?

This and it came with a copy of Incoming and G-Police. There was a collective thud as everyone's jaws hit the desk when Incoming first loaded!

I'd forgotten about them. I'm fairly certain I didn't bother playing either though. Did I miss a trick?!

Also, as someone else mentioned, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. Forgot about that too, but DID play it :]

One of the cards below - whatever hit the market first as I can't recall.

First gen PowerVR from Videologic (iirc?). It had 4MB of ram and came with some racing game to show off it's power, and boy did it have that. It's a shame that 3Dfx at the time actually had marketing prowess whereas PowerVR has sod all.

I also had a first gen Matrox Mystique that came with G-Police (top game!), Destruction Derby (dreadful fps) and Mechwarrior (urgh). The card's performance overall was real poor though.

Voodoo 3 and Turok for me

I remember how epic the blood effects were when I first saw them :D

Although i also seem to remember running F22 Interceptor...

I remember my dad bringing me back a magazine from work one morning with Quake 2 demo in it. I didnt know much about computers back then, and I remember my particular computer hated running the game.

Years on I learned about floating points and Cyrix Processors :D

Also had an Aureal Vortex soundcard and some proper wooden cambridge sound speakers, they were brilliant. Unfortunately most stuff supported Soundblaster and the aureal vortex wasnt all that great at emulating soundblaster, although it had the option.

Think we get this thread once a year :p

Orchid Righteous 3D (Voodoo 1) was my first card, played games like Turok, Incoming and Ultimate Race Pro. Then had Banshee (Voodoo 2) :)

Creative Labs 3D Blaster Voodoo 2 and probably Mechwarrior 2.

I still haven't played a semi sim combat game as good as MW2 after about 12 years :(

I've still got the MW2 box & game, and only recently threw the card out.

It started with a PowerVR 4mb that sat alongside a ATI Rage card I think, then progressed onto a Matrox Millenium G200 8mb.

Ah those were the days. :D

First computer i ever had access was an Intel Pentium 1 100mhz with 8mb of memory and a ****y 2mb graphics card if i can recall correctly. Lets see about games... used to play descent, Jack the Jack Rabit, Xwing vs Tie fighter but i think my first game was an isometric view Indiana Jones rpg?

Mine was a Geforce 256. Won it through a competition in either PC Zone or PC Gamer (can't remember which :o) in 2000 when they were top of the range. Originally went into an AMD K6-2 450mhz system but I upgraded to an Athlon 900mhz shortly after getting it.

First 3D game through it was Soldier of Fortune.

Everything before then was integrated graphics only so it was a huge step :D

I bought a PowerVR first actually and then took it back in favour of an Orchid 3DFX card!

I still have my Orchid Righteous 3DFX card. :D

Guillemot Maxigamer 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics 4MB.

First game I played I'm not sure, possibly GLQuake although it might have been a DOS Glide game like Carmageddon, Grand Theft Auto or Screamer Rally. Or maybe even Quake 2, I bought Q2, the card and a 32MB RAM upgrade on the same day.

Must admit I'm slightly surprised to see so many 90s cards mentioned here.

A 4mb Matrox Mystique and MechWarrior 2 would be my first 3d gfx card and game played on it. Added a 3dfx card once I could and played WipEout 2097 to death on that rig.

For those who've forgot - 3Dfx games..

there are some truly epic classics in the start of that video.. then it goes to unreal, one of the best looking games released back in the 90's..

Unreal's intro and overall music is amongst one of the greatest things about gaming in that era. The game just accomplished so much and looked totally stunning.

3Dfx Voodoo, had to have a 2D card which when games attempted to use 3D you would hear a click as it switched over to 3D.

Was a good game, wonder if you can get unreal gold to run under Windows 7? Unreal did have openGL support, the d3d support was ropey back in the day as it was really designed around 3Dfx glide API.

Lost many weekends due to unreal.. Sadly as good looking as it was, Quake and Quake II were overall better games IMO with my trusty 3Dfx voodoo card..!!

Who had two 12MB voodoo 2 cards in SLI?
