old system needs upgrade

My old system needs some upgrades graphics card and ram but i am not sure if up to date parts will fit it
the mother board is a Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3
the ram is G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL )
i was thinking of 32 gigs of ram and a 6-8 gig graphics card to replace my radion HD 6900 with 2gigs
or would i be better off getting a new system ?

As above - is it a K CPU and what resolution is your screen?

If it's a K series CPU you could hold off a full upgrade for a few months and clock it within an inch of its life - if you haven't done so already

You only need 16Gb of memory if it's only for gaming - so ~£60.

If gaming at 1080P then a GTX 1060 would see a nice bump in performance but a GTX 1070/Ti would be preferable especially if you have a high refresh screen. But if you game at 1440p - then the GTX 1070Ti would be the sensible option if you can afford it.

Additional: You will need to update your BIOS to the latest version to ensure compatibility with the new GPU.

This would see a considerable increase in performance - for relatively small outlay (although GPUs/memory are silly money at the moment) - but the GPU will slot in nicely to whatever you upgrade to in the future and you should get half your money back on your memory (if prices are still high) when you decide to build a whole new system.

I have a 2500K @ 4.4/4.5GHz, 16Gb memory and a GTX 1070 gaming at 1440p. This was meant to be temporary upgrade until Ryzen appeared but nearly 12 months later i'm now waiting for the Ryzen 2 release in April - as i've been that impressed with the performance for my gaming needs (Note: 60Hz IPS monitor)

the ssd has been replaced with a samgung 850 evo 500gb and the system has another 3tb hard drive and a hot swap dock.
I use it for gaming and photography work

that computer is nothing to be sniffed at, even if it's nearly 7 years old.
out of those listed, i'd probably:
1) overclock the cpu - 4.5-4.7 should be easily achievable
2) get more ram - depending on your workload, you could simply drop in another 2x4gb sticks to make 16gb total - or swap all for 4x8gb sticks for 32gb - either of those would be cheaper as you can source these 2nd hand for much less than new ddr4 ram, which you will need with a new platform.
3) upgrade the gpu (but it's a really bad time at the moment with the crypto craze going on)

the only spanner in the works is the spectre/meltdown bugs which i doubt p67 mobos will get an update for, unfortunately.

thanks for the help i might just wait to see if ram and graphic cards drop in price and build a new system later this year or next year then unless i am unfortunate enough to get spectre or meltdown that will give me time to save for a much bigger upgrade
