Oldboy

Seek in taking offence at another members dislike of a film he likes, SHOCKER.

It is a pile of steaming crap. It is trying to be profound and inspired. Instead, it is crap.

I like how you have made up your mind after watching less than half the film.

Considering only one other person in this thread feels it is "crap" maybe you shouldn't be so aggressive towards it? :)

[edit] In fact even Nitefly admits it isn't a bad film :)

I loved Oldboy personally.

I don't care for these "it's asian, it MUST be good comments". I'm not too bothered which country it's made in, all I care about is the quality of the film And Oldboy is quality. Acting, cinematography (especially), storyline etc. I can understand why people wouldn't like it though.

Why watch the rest if it has been entirely uninvolving, conveys the storyline in a rather poor fashion and appears to have been conceived by a group of film students to express their angst at their casual drug abusing lifestyles.

A good film doesn't make you want to switch it off after 10 minutes. A good film keeps you involved from the start through to the end.

I'm not being agressive towards it at all, I'm just stating my disgust at it. Maybe I should have used 695 smileys and stuck a "LOL WUT" or two at the end of my post?

That is an interesting point. Only the other day I was discussing with a friend how most westerners couldn't even name a single Japanese non-animated movie which isn't violent.

I cant remember if it was actually Japanese or not but "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring" wasnt a violent movie but I really enjoyed it.

Oldboy is quite a good film, don't think its great but very watchable.
Asian films which are great off the top of my head are Infernal Affairs and A World Without Thieves.

we really enjoyed it. probably wouldn't watch it again - it's one of those 'watch once' films, I think.

The corridoor scene was indeed impressive!
It was a while ago that i watched Oldboy but i seem to remember that fight scene being really badly choreographed and almost funny at times. I might be wrong.

I thought Oldboy was alright, but hugely over-rated. In fact i think the whole Vengeance trilogy is over-rated. I liked them all, but they're nothing world-changing or anything. I did like the photography in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance though, lots of super wide-angle shots etc.. that's really nice.

pretty ok film seems like the director was a little lost or sub par with filming.its a bit like usual suspects once youve seen it you dont really want to watch it again as film whole purpose is the ending.

as for matrix some bits are a little original but seen them in films before the megacash maschine hit the cinema for example iron monkey ,which i like a lot better than matrix.

lots of films do borrow from there forfathers though in some way or other so is it possible to make a truly original film nowdays?
