Oldest OC'er to pass their test?

Passed my motorbike test not long after turning 22, not got any plans of getting my driving test out the way any time soon. If I get it done in the next few years it will be because the Army paid for me to get it lol.

18 for me.

Why didn't you try earlier?

I first took lessons at 17, the instructor I had was quite frankly a word beginning with b that rhymes with plastered.
A few lessons with him put me off for a good while, completely knocked my confidence. I then lost my job and was unemployed for quite a long time so couldn't afford any lessons. When I was working again I had a job only a few minutes walk from where I lived and so didn't really see the need for a car.
It wasn't until I got married and had a young family that I felt the need to learn.

I heard that my original driving instructor was out with a pupil one day and told them to drive him home as he felt unwell. He was dead from a heart attack within half an hour of getting home. Always thought he looked stressed!

31, took lessons and realised driving for me would be a luxury* more than a necessity, so i quit lessons and have no interest in cars, perfectly happy with public transport and my mtb

* its not even a luxury, way too much hassle , and too many cars on the road.

cars are not for me, in fact if you don't need your own transport for work, its never a need, no one 'needs' a car, and as said, they cost WAY too much money to run.

I grew up in a rural area with no public transport for miles and even when you reached that public trasport it was unreliable, slow and didn't get you where you close to where you needed to be.

Your own transport was more important than a GCSE in my area.

then a car was needed in your case. i know a lot of people who own a car and only use it to go the shop for a paper/lottery ticket etc.

its like they think people wont regard them as real men if they don't own a car.

Same here, no public transport for miles around so having a car was never not an option. Had my first lesson on the day I turned 17 and passed a short while after.

Passed when I was 28.

I was doing lessons at 19 and was put forward for my test even though I wasn't sure I was ready. Had a few more lessons then got the idea that the instructor just wanted my dough, so gave up and enjoyed drinking plenty instead of driving :p
