if he'd used the 3.6 to finish he would have had to open with a lower dive

This. They all need to perform different types of dive and his final dive wasn't a high scoring tariff regardless of the dive he could've attempted.

Yeah he did, Lin Yue would have been in the medals but he messed up his 4th dive.
