Olympic Opening Ceremony

It was much better than I thought but don't want to give too much away.

Just keep an ear out for the drummers and than an eye out for the tree :D

You'll have to wait until Friday I guess. I always thought the main thing was the farmland stage and British countryside scenario but that is just a tiny part of things :D

Good thing I didn't take my dslr too, as I used my mobile to record mainly vids (albeit a tad shakey).

Those posting pics are giving away too much of the surprise :(

I was also skeptical when I saw the shots of the farmland set on the news sites, but having seen the technical rehearsal last night I'm confident they're going to deliver a good show on the night. Started a bit slowly but it gets going - they've done a damn good job in my opinion :)

I heard on ITV News last night that the rehearsal yesterday was done in front of 60,000 people!

Isn't that a bit excessive for a rehearsal? Especially for something they are trying to keep quiet until Friday. How were those 60,000 even chosen to attend?

Not excessive at all, not just a starting rehearsal, but also a stadium rehearsal, so check to make sure everything including the seats work, sound levels (people adsorb sound) etc.

Some got tickets after putting their names forward to be a volunteer and then not being chosen for any role

I thought the stadium rehearsal and infrastructure was all tested during that weekend back in June, the same one in which they also did the military tests. I knew somebody who attended that one.

It was meant to start at 20:12 but I think they were still warming up until 9pm when they had the minute countdown.

It was mightily impressive I have to say from then on. Very British and a great show considering it was a rehearsal.

Three people I know have been to the rehearsals - all have said it was amazing - particularly this a mate posted on Facebook:

Heading back from the Olympic opening rehearsal. It was amazing. Hands down one of the best things I have ever seen. I urge you all to watch it on TV on Friday!
Whoop! I have tickets! :D

Friend saw it last night, works for UPS and has been manic for him, said it was INCREDIBLE. Easily as good as 2008....I will wait and see, I want it to be good though :)

I'm just a "little green" with envy! :D We'll need lots of pics. :)

Careful, dont take a decent camera, wouldnt want you to pay a lot of money for a ticket then actually be able to look back with decent photos you took years later.....

That is my only thing that has annoyed me...."dont take a decent camera" pffft

I still think this is going to be terrible. All they need to top it off is Cliff Richard singing. Although that would ruin the moshpit. :D

I still like the idea someone had of giving Boris Johnson a boatload of acid and letting him run wild in the stadium. :D

I also went last night.

It was absolutely spectacular, and it is going to be epic.

There was a part that raised the hairs on my neck. But I don't want to spoil what it was!

Sifting through 700 photos is a ballache though. I got far too excited with the trigger.

Dad went last night, said it started pretty dull but got better. Not as good as 08 but still worth the watch.

I think the crowd warmup segment was very poor and I saw quite a few leaving (as it was after the 20:12 starttime but before the 9pm official start.
