Omega from Dubai

Does it really matter so much to people? The same can be said about cars, computers, phones etc...

Quite agree.

I know someone who upgrades their gfx card every year at an averge cost of £300. Now I've had my current Sekio watch for 10 years and that orginally cost £350.

So based over a 10 year period that is £3500 on gfx cards...

Not really becuase people can go "Ooh that mustang that went past, pure sex" or "Is that the N95, they're pretty nifty".
A quality pc is a pleasure thing most of the time, what pleasure do you get from a watch.
What fairly normal person goes up to someone with a fancy watch and recognises it "Wow is that an omega".
Very few because it'll look the same as an 80 quid jobby like mine which tells the time and lis aesthetically pleasing, maybe a bit more accurate which is totally useless because most people have cheap watches or no watch at all.

My case.
It's your money but I just never understand the point.

Omega Watch owner here.

I am not impressed at all I have a 2264.50.00 in blue. I paid about £800 or so in New York city in march last year.

In the first month of ownership the crown (winder) fell out when I tried to change the date I doubt this would happen in a cheap Japanese watch. This took around 2 months to get repaired by omega.

Secondly exposed metal on the strap and timepiece scratch very easily so keep this in mind when making your choice.

£1000 is not allot to spend on a watch and this is coming from someone that doesn’t earn much at all (student one day a week).

Well every time I look at one of my watches it gives me pleasure, it's just a watch to you but to me it's a work of art that also tells the time. I don't really care if other people don't recognise it, that's not the reason I buy them. As you say each to their own.

.

thats an odd analogy, why would anyone give a monkeys about someones mobile phone ?

A car I can understand but a phone ?

no one has ever commented on my N95

You can get a car for £1500 - the same price as the watch you posted..that is all i am saying! :p

You can get a car for £80 too, what's your point?

An £80 car (using your logic) is just as good at getting you from A>B as a £20,000 car. Much like an £80 watch is just as good at telling the time as a £20,000 watch, the only difference in both examples is that one looks nicer than the other, and may be more reliable.

And don't forget cars depreciate whereas a good watch will probably stay at a similar value.

*Disclaimer* I don't own either a watch or car...:p

No but your mate down the pub might say "new phone already? N95 isn't it?".
And like the pc, it's something which makes life easier because of the features you'll get.

I disagree, i own a Breitling Montbrillant, i brounght it with a bonus one year. its the best thing i have ever brought.

Its like being a member of an exclusive club, other breitling wearers, say thing like hey is that abreitling then you cant for a few mins about your watch, his watch. its very cool

Sorry but I can imagine a bloke in the breitling club looking and sounding a bit like loyd grossman. :D

Whatever floats your boat I guess.
It's a bit like going to a car show I suppose. Everyone rattles on about their cars and their mods.

I hate the type of responses that come up with these threads, people questioning expensive watches and how they are not worth it. Horses for courses i say, if people want advice, either give it to them or dont post, rather than bashing peoples consumption choices.

Dubai can go anywhere from 0% to 45/50% cheaper than the UK, all depends on the watch make and model, Omega is usually 10-20% in my experience (off the list price that is). I also find there is a lot more leeway in negotiations compared with UK dealers. As with anywhere shop around in Dubai.
