OMG Ebay users are getting really lame, threatening me with prison

He doesnt actually state thats its an antique anywhere, he says it looks old (which with the many pictures he has put up you can see it does look old) he doesnt even state it is chineese so i dont understand where people are getting this chineese antique fake from!!

If it really is a vintage porcelaine collectable worth $5k, then it's probably going to be stopped at customs as handicrafts and vintage folk art are subject to duty, so valuation and dating will probably have to be made for an item of significant value traveling without paperwork.

If it isn't genuine vintage item then the "OMG FBI will kick your door in and arrest you" lady might not that far from the truth - if it's a forgery of a documented, catalogue item (think something lost during war etc) the buyer probably will report it to his/her authorities, initiate chargeback and you will loose item, money and depending on what exactly it is copy of, possibly have some unpleasant people with official badges knocking on your door.

For one im not trying to rip people off, never have as you can see from my feedback vesta man, if they want to bid i cant stop them, i have listed it what i think it is, end of, if it were you selling and it got good bids would you take it off ebay and go and get it valued and where would you go and at what cost to yourself.

Its not down as an antique as i wouldnt know if it was.

The auction was started at 99p no reserve, i havnt told them to bid, for all i care it could have sold for 99p.

I didnt start this thread to get myself called a thief from people behind a keyboard with nothing better to do than snipe at people, i started it to point out how silly people can be throwing threats of prison about.

I for one think you have done nothing wrong. You never said anything that could be taken as exact details apart from a description of the item.

Ignore the eejit sending you messages, just wants it for himself/herself.

well i got about 50 minutes to decide wether to take it off or leave it on, really carnt decide

Obviously if it's a fake then all the above is void, a 'marble' lover has already aired his suspicions that it's a fake and tbh my scam/******* meter says the way it's been listed and worded looks fishy and deceptive at the very least!
:

No, a person who pays 300 dollars for a paper mache sheep and likes seed based jewellery has said it's fake.

Also the listing is basically "I don't know wtf it is found it at a car boot sale"

How is that in anyway deceptive?

Get it valued before you send it, then either apologise and say its a fake or send it to them and profit, or if its worth a lot more sell to the highest bidder elsewhere.

You have to remember that its them that will have the item with you having no easy way of getting the item back. All they have to do is click a file dispute button and ebay will probably send them there money straight back and take it from your account.

No they are competing for it because they think it's an old rare antique marble that is worth a lot of money and potentially a sound investment!

So they think they're getting it on the cheap due to the ignorance that the seller has very openly admitted to. Who's trying to pull a fast one here?

A thing can only be a fake if it's passed off as something it isn't. The OP can't be trying to sell a fake because he's not selling it as anything other than what it is. The listing is a clear description of what the item is, with some good photos. The seller clearly states that they don't know what it is, they bought it from a car boot sale and they have absolutely no provenance for it.

That is not at all deceptive - it's simple and honest.

Perhaps it's just me but I have this horrible picture in my head of someone ecstatic and over the moon thinking they have just obtained something they have spent years looking for to then come crashing down realizing that it's a poor fake and they have pretty much been robbed of thousands of pounds!!
But hey it's their own 'stupid' fault

It is their own fault and it isn't robbery.

Not only is there no claim of authenticity, the seller goes out of their way to explicitly deny any such claim by saying clearly that they don't know what it is that they're selling.

If you want to buy a specific antique that you've spent years looking for, you examine it or have an expert examine it for you if you are not an expert yourself, to determine authenticity. You look for provenance as much as possible.

You might take a punt on something cheap that might be a valuable antique...if you don't mind ripping off the seller.

You don't spend $1700 on an unspecified item that no-one is claiming anything about, least of all that it's the item you're looking for, based solely on a handful of photos. Not unless you are sure you can resell it for much more and thus rip off the seller, or if $1700 is an unimportant amount to you, something you can just take a punt on.

I remember swallowing a marble as a kid and I am pretty sure it hasn't seen the light of day for close to 30 years. If only I could remember if it looked anything like that listed marble :(

Looking at the auction page, looks completely innocent to me. Doesn't seem to me that any promises have been made and I got the impression you have pretty much no idea on the details of the marble and were just getting rid of it.

Maybee the person emailing is calling fake due to where the listing is placed.

Listed in category: Toys & Hobbies > Marbles > Pre-1970 > Hand Made

Thats the only thing i can think of ?
