Ahhh, I think I get it - the faster you can move, the faster you can level to need to buy TBC, the faster you get through TBC, the faster you will need to buy WOTLK
im not telling you what to play but druids have been blizzards love child for a couple of years now and doesnt seem to be changing anytime soon. whether u want to do healing, damage dealing or tanking a druid will do them all good and sometimes better than the purist class so you cant go wrong with choosing them.
the classes are not balanced so its best to pick the correct class instead of wasting so much time getting 1-80 only to find you wont get into groups because other classes can do your job so much better.
my quick guide:
damage dealing:
mage
hunter
no point picking any other cause you wont be able to keep up even if you have the same gear as them.
healing:
druid (dont think they have any problems)
priest (although they are being nerfed with a 6sec cd to coh)
paladin (best single target healing in the game, very boring and situational)
shaman (have a resto myself and they are average)
tanking: (warrior is always going to get picked above the other 2)

I'd personally pick a pally if you want a class to try. Druids are okay but found them pretty boring and don't play mine now.
Best class I've found is Death Knight but you need to have made a character to 55 to try that. Pallys with the free horses and heals are a great all around class with no requirements for anyone else to do the solo quests - where as Druid is more a utility class. Which means that they're good at support rather than playing on your own (and lets face it at some time you will be playing on your own).

your right pallys now are great for leveling, although the level 60 horse isnt free, still need to pay for the riding skill. but i was talking about endgame and whats the point in leveling a character to 80 only to find out you struggle to get groups for heroics/raids. healing in heroics is difficult if your going with a pug as you cant aoe heal you have to constantly spam flash of light (if thats what you find fun then fair enough). and ive hardly seen any pally tanks as warriors and druids can aoe tank just as well these days.

Not a bad choice. My first serious character was a paladin too and I took him from the forests of Elwynn to staring down Brutalus as one of the MT's. Paladins can also do anything with regards to being great tanks, choice MT healers and decent damage dealers with the recent buffs they got.

Question. I'm on the Argent Dawn server with a lv70 paladin, lv70 rogue, lv70 mage and lv58 priest. I would like to start playing again but focus only on PVP with the very very occasional raid. I raided hardcore for long that it started to feel like work. I would only want to run around, help out, have a chat and do BG's. Would your guild accept higher levels?
pallys are great fun and retri spec does good damage now, i've got a 80 lock and a 80 pally, when the dual specs come out i plan on going retri/healer shouldn't have a problem finding groups then
hmm i also have a lock and ret pally, think they are great fun just dks have come along with dps warriors and stolen our gear
also means raiding we never really get taken as a dps even tho we can compete if we know how to play our class. hows your lock going? i dont get taken seriously as dps with that either (thanks blizz). meh what to do..
as above mate, we are only in our mid 30s. So it wouldnt make sense you moving your main to it right now....plus we are already pretty healthy for mages......have 3 regulars.
