OMG I've forgotten how to use a mouse!

Actually you are wrong. Its not counter-intuitive at all.

Right now at your computer. Grab your mouse in a normal fashion, now pivoting at your waste keep everything else rigid (like your neck). Tilt so you are looking up, where does you mouse move... DOWN!

In an FPS you are not moving a mouse pointer that looks like a cross hair, you are tilting your virtual body.
But it is counter intuitive with respect to normal mouse usage. To move the mouse up, right now in windows, you push it away from you. To raise your crosshair, much like a cursor, you push away.

Since the days of Doom ive had my mouse set reversed

I'm curious as to why you would want to do that, given that there was no vertical looking in Doom. You would get mouseforward = move back, mouseback = moveforward

I disagree - the crosshair DOES NOT MOVE. It's the background which you make move with the mouse - with invert mouse enabled, pushing the mouse forward slides the background upwards. Perfectly logical.

In spacesims, I don't use invert mouse because in those you are actually moving the targetting reticle/crosshair.

That said, I think there is no 'correct' way to play in terms of invert mouse - it's all about what you get used to. Unlike movement keys where there are distinct (dis)advantages from certain combinations.

PRAISE THE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORD - I can play again!!!

I don't know why i invert my mouse, it just makes sense to me, always has. I used to like playing flight sims like F29 Retaliator and at the time i didnt have a joystick so i used the mouse - maybe thats why.

Yesterday I tried playing Serious Sam yesterday on my laptop using the touchpad - I couldn't play it inverted! Maybe thats what confused my brain in the first place - using a finger mouse

Finger Mouse!! heheheee, ahh the good old days of crappy puppet tv :p

There was vertical look in one of the Doom's wasn't there? I actually thought about this long and hard when i posted the thread and was sure that at some point Doom evolved, maybe not the first one though.
Ok how about if i change it the Heretic, but then if Heretic used mouse up/down the Doom was sure to right?

I have a friend who played in all-inverted. i.e: left and right was inverted on his mouse too. If you're going to use the argument about which way your head goes, then he was the one I've met doing it really properly :p
