Omg Rover 75!

The door panels arnt very good :p

I know that because I used to work in the place that made them and loads of the door panels were botch jobs.

The Rover 75 was big problems for Rover and it looks very much like a Jaguar. I think a lot of people spent a couple of thousand more on a jag rather on a car thats name was going down the pan.

Ho ho...how my sides are aching. Your sarcasm cuts like a blunt spoon.

So what in your not so humble opinion is wrong with them?

the motoring press was universally agreed that the 75 was by the best car rover had made of the last 10 years.

That and the MGF, but the MGF got old and tired, where the 75 never did.

"Damning it with faint praise" springs to mind :D

Not much of an acheivement looking at what it was up against.

Just because it's the best Rover, doesn't make it good.

Hell, the even tryed to push the Tata for 6 months.

Worryingly enough, I've actually seen a few of them about in Burton....at least four. And that's four more than I ever thought they'd manage to con people into buying.....

The FIAT dealership my Father works in used to sell Rover too.

Tata (Rover Citycar ())buyer #1:

Bought it as a long standing rover owner, traded it back in next week and baught a Punto.
That Tata was to become spare parts.

Tata Buyer 2:

Posh Lady Rover owner, could not be convinced to step a way from the tata.
Rear wheel bearings failed at 500 and 2500miles.
Battery keeps going flat.
I can't remember the rest.
When told it's actually a Tata she says: Rover would never do a thing like that. It's just a "Friday Car", could you sell me another one?

Tata Buyer 3:
Similaer problems to #2. Is desperately trying to get rid of it for more than 20p to buy a real car.

I'm not making it up.

No swearing

Oh, I can believe it. More's the pity....

Would you beleive the Guy who lets his parrot decide when and what car to buy? It would start sqauking when it was tyred of a car, or didn't like it.

Was a customer there for about 12 months. We suspect the parrot went off FIATs

Parrot got the front seat in it's cage, wife (I can't beleive there is one ether) sits in the back.

Apparently the salemen had to keep diving into the workshop to die of laughter.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the shape but I have to admit that the detailing is original and they're massively underated cars. Superb ride and lovely interior (if you're into that look).

What's the situation nowadays with regard to getting spares or components for them?

Its not a problem. Rover sold off its parts department a long time ago. They are still running and making all parts, and they have also set up a network of approved MG Rover specialists, a lot of which are ex-rover dealers (http://www.xpart.com).

Trademark curly wood, blinding white elephant skin trim with mismatched deco black seats with white rubber edges. For conesseurs indeed.

Obviously, the looks of the interior are subjective, but most people do think it is very nice, and personally, it was one of the main things that attracted me to them when I bought one. I had had enough of interiors made of cheap black plastic.

The 75 is a good car. Its comfy, well spec'ed, and although it may not have mondeo beating handling, its perfectly capable on the road. There are some good engines to choose from, notably the KV6, which takes the form of the 2.0 and 2.5 and the diesels, which are all BMW engines. The others are 4 cylinder k-series engines, so can suffer HGF. Its advisable to buy one of the >2000 ones, as they supposedly have better build quality, due to being built at Longbridge.

All things considered, they are a very good value used buy nowadays. Lots more information can be found from http://forums.mg-rover.org/.

White steering wheel attracted you to Rover? Really?
Doesn't KV6 suffer from HGF too?

And where are those "bargain cheap" Rovers everyone keeps talking about, there are none in autotrader or in my local papers.

2002 Rover 75 CDT Classic SE

58073 miles, manual £3999

This is for a 4 year old, low mileage luxury car with a BMW diesel engine. If you can put up with driving the 1.8 petrol engined cars they can be had for nearly half that.

There is no such car available via autotrader, no sub 60k CDTIs for less than 5 grand. Which, anyhow, I would say is a lot of money for a nearly 5 year old car with radio casette as luxury item and license for panels and parts sold to Chinese. 5k is Ghia X sector.

With regards to parts being a problem, try and source a new door skin or wing for a 2 year old rover 25. Good luck with that. I knew someone who had a carpark incident(not their fault) and the insurers could only offer parts sourced from the scrappy or a wait of over 6 months to get parts.

Hi. Not really my section, but thought i'd give my 2pence worth here. I quite like them. They won the most 'beautiful car award' 2004 I think. Also, I accepted your challenge and XPart said they could deliver these in 2 days to my door. Total cost £150 +vat. They mentioned that they stock 99.5% of parts for Rover 75s. Therefore, I dont see the problems.

Compared to what? A 3 series that also comes with only a tape player and a CD changer in the boot?

Old KV6s did, but Im not sure about the new generation - havent seen anyone complaining about HGF on an MG ZS 180's etc, but we will see.

I wonder what the 0.5% that they don't stock is?

Head Gasket Set? :p

Bodywork is only made on the production line or shoddily by pattern part manufacturers. These parts will dry up and when gone you only be able to use pattern parts.
