OMG - Spec me a Compact - yes I know!

If getting a new compact, my money would be going on a p7000, amazing little thing.

Superseded by the P7100 now...though in my view it's another not quite there Nikon compact. I'd take any of the S95, XZ-1 and LX-5 over it by a distance. Personally I like the S95 because it's actually a compact and pocket friendly but it's still got great controls and a fast-ish lens.

I can't stand moving screens, so that has no interest to me, and the slightly faster processor I'm sure is just marketing gimmick, I doubt it's even noticeable. With a £200 price difference on release I know which my money would be going on. The p7000 has a brilliant sensor, with image quality to match a dslr and high end glass. 28-200mm lens and iso up to 12,800 too. It's a lovely camera to hold and use too, which is often more important than specs on paper

I love my S95 if that helps :)

It fits in my jeans pocket and has all the functions (that I'd use) of my 400D. In fact I haven't even used my 400D since I bought it.

Lol, I don't think I will ever put down my FF set up, but I can't exactly take that everywhere with me, I almost have to plan ahead and know what I will be doing that day before making the decision of whether to take it or not. If the situation allows, the 5D will be out, if not then the Olympus will be around. I might just keep it in my bag all the time even.

It depends what you want, but if I'm in the market for a compact camera then I want it to be compact and the S95 is significantly smaller than the XZ-1. So for me I'd rather have the canon even if the Olympus outperforms it.

I would go with a Canon PowerShot G9 or G11 (i think its the G11... the one without the flippy screen, unless you need a flippy out screen which in that case go for the G12).

Expensive... but does everything you want.
