not a shady area at all. the photographer owns the photo as he's taken it, if he wants it published (i.e in the cinema, magazine etc) he needs the models permission. since this is a shot directly of you (i.e not fairly unrecognisable in the background) then you have rights to ask for it to be removed/edited if you like.
unfortunatley for you since its college advertising and not really for monitary gain you're unlikely to get anything out of them that way. plus you may have agreed to some sort of publicity release with your t+c of being a student at their establishment.
