On a motorbike is weaving in and out of traffic illegal?

Some (not all) bikers have a stupid habit of trying to get past artics that are taking a wide swing right, to turn left.

More than a few times I've nearly collected one!

And I've lost count of the biker accidents I've seen on motorways caused by them weaving in between drivers that don't use their mirrors......

to some drivers/bikers its obvious what the lorry is doing. To others its as if they aint got a bleeding clue whats going on. These sort of people shouldnt be on the road.

I mean Why else would a lorry indicating left move right? Ive had another car try to overtake me as i slowed for a lorry to do this (lorry turning right but had moved right upto left side of road). When he got half way along side me, and then had to brake sharpish as the lorry swung in i just looked at him and  with my keyboard...

these are the motorists that make the country think "speed kills" when really it should say "morons kill".

and some car drivers do also

what sort of post is that, if it's flame bait works well on flukester lol

Its not flame bait in the slightest. I've never seen you ride or ridden as a passenger with you. But there is no denying some riders are complete tossers when on the road (I've seen it a fair few times)

I see more tossers in cars every single day though, so I don't see the point in making a specific point about the bad bikers on the roads.

because this thread is about bikers weaving in traffic. coarse its aimed at bikers. ;)

and anyway you see more tossers in cars because they outnumber bikes by how much? I see about 5-10 bikes a day, but probably see 2000+ cars

Filtering is legal but is 'at risk', that is it's the biker's responsibility to ensure their safety, not the people in the two marked lanes.

this thread just smacks of 'boohoo got overtaken by a biker while stuck in traffic' syndrome, hence asking if it's legal or not.

there are fools on bikes and in cars, but whatever way you look at it bikers will get where they are going faster and even when there is zero traffic still faster, thats just the way it is :)

they will also get there with a bigger grin, unless car driver has spent a lot of dosh on a really good motor, it's gonna be a yawnmobile in comparison :)

i've been in quick cars, owned some quite good ones including STIs etc, and nothing comes close to a bike.. in every way except staying warm and dry :)

edit: a pet hate of mine though which im sure op agrees with is bikers on dual carriageways / motorways just weaving even at high traffic speeds... makes me cringe, still, it's them whos gonna end up losing life, let them get on with it.

edit edit: other pet hate is bikers who can wheelie all the way up to sixth gear (150mph +), i wish my kahoonas were that large lol

until it rains ;)

This thread smacks of two groups who sit on either side of the fence and jump at the opportunity to have a go when in reality, it needed be brought up at all. You can drive/ride anything and be a complete tit. I know, I am one :p

Filtering and "weaving in and out of traffic" are two different things. Bikes can seem to weave at slow speed, its how the front wheel reacts to the curvature and bumps in the road but so long as they're not changing lanes undertaking and overtaking in an unpredictable manner it's perfectly fine. In the courts its a grey area mind you. If you have an RTA as a result of filtering it can be very hard to be looked upon as anything other than an idiot but you have to accept that you filter at your own risk. Most of the time it isn't really worth it in town but it is nice to have some clear road in front of you.

Filtering though stationary or slow moving traffic is AFAIK legal,
but I have found most car drivers hate 2 wheeled road users doing it, as they have to sit in the traffic.

I cycle a lot & filter on the outside of stationary or slow moving cars,
& more than once I've had car drivers move out into my path just to slow or stop me going past.

I have had this a lot on the motorbike. It really infuriates me. Last time it happened at some traffic lights, I got of the bike, put it on it's stand and walked toward the offending car. The driver suddenly became extremely interested in his Cd player. It's not worth losing your temper over though.

LOL :D

erm same way you sit in a car stuck in traffic looking a complete plank ? :)

filtering through static / slow moving traffic is legal if done without driving dangerously, as is moving to front of traffic light jams... i've moved to front along police on many occasions, no probs.

I guess you lot have a different meaning of weaving between traffic then to me.
