My new rig.
E6300
DS3
XMS2
7900GS

Got a little quirky thing that i noticed, wondering if anyone else has seen this.

When i press the power on button on the front of the case the computer starts to power up (on/off button flicks on/Fans start up), but after a few mili seconds the power light goes off and the fans all stop (basically powers down) then suddenly, after a few more mili-seconds, it all starts up and runs correctly.

Anyone ever seen this before?

this is basically a power supply or a fried component of some sort, take all components, lay then out. start with the psu plugged into the mobo.. turn on... if all is ok, turn off, add the hdd next, if all runs fine, add another component till you find the one that stops the computer from powering up properly

p.s. ive had this problem, it was the power supply, might be worth just swapping it out to see if thats the problem if you are able to buy a new one.

Don't skimp on PSU's I had lot's of cheap come with case PSU, had that same problem as you. I got a Tagan never had that problem agian.

What watt psu do you think i would need for the setup in my first post?

I have a 550watt at the moment, but it was the cheapest one i could find bought several years ago.

it happens to a lot of people (including me) and as far as I'm aware there is no need to go and remove all your components. People seem to attribute this to the bios checking settings from a cold start. It happened on the P5W without an bios update and it happens on the DS3 here..

Just as long as this is only happening when you first switch it on at the mains

edit: nevertheless don't get a cheap psu. 550W is fine as long as it's a good brand.

Are you using an Antec Sonata II by any chance? I have this same thing happen to me, but I wouldn't call it a "problem"

It isn't faulty components its your motherboard checking the bios before a completely cold boot. Next time you reboot it shouldn't happen

It really is less than a second it turns off for.
Push on button - Fans start up/power light comes on.
power off
power starts up again.

Basically as quickly as you read the above is the time space that it accures in.
Can BIOS really check that fast?

Well it could be a number of things. It could be faulty memory, motherboard or PSU. It's most likely one of these three. Have you tried only one stick of memory in there? (if you have more than two to start off with).

Which model of PSU have you got? Are all power cables plugged in? The full ATX24pin and the 4/8pin connector near to the CPU socket?

Have you tried powering off the machine and then immediately pressing the power button to power back on?
