On The Wagon... then in 'ere!

Drinking the day before, but not on the day of the collapse. Doctor says I have muscle wastage and nerve damage. Now on 15 ish pills a day. :(

What do you think it would take for you to stop drinking and seek the help you need?

You have brain damage, nerve damage, muscle waste, kidney failure, on 15 pills a day. But you still drink?

I'm genuinely curious as I speak as someone with an ex alcoholic father. He ended up in hospital after rolling his car and nearly dying. That was his wake up call.

Where do you think your rock bottom is?

To be honest my wake up call was being told I've got nerve damage and kidney failure, my feet ache like hell and half my hands are numb. Whilst I was cycling 30 miles a day I thought I was fit as a butchers dog, how wrong I was.

Anyway, back on the wagon now or it probably will kill me.

One thing I will say, with kidney failure you hallucinate terribly seeing and hearing things that aren't there but they seem real as the light of day.

Hope you don't mind me popping in on this thread.
I have never really drunk and was diagnosed with Primary sclerosing cholangitis several years ago, this causes disease and damage to the bile ducts in and around the liver and Gall bladder.
Ended up on the transplant list on 17th October, last Saturday 29th had a liver transplant.
The last week has been really, really hard. I mean hell at times.
If I can just give anyone a small bit of inspiration and boost, please give it your absolute best, it's absolutely not a place you want to visit if at all possible.
Take care all.

Having my first beer since 30th September, although it tastes so good I must admit my whole attitude has changed around it. Round about now I would be thinking about the next 4 pack tomorrow night, then again Saturday night.

Sat here quite happily and would quite easily go another month, I think this is actually how alcohol should be enjoyed!!

Keep going, my dad had a liver transplant a couple of years ago and the difference is amazing.

You really didn't have to wait long so very lucky on that part.

A long road to recovery but keep strong!

Gotten worse myself.

Drinking heavily this weak.

I know, i am pathetic. Life is pathetic.....................All my doing

My last real season was in January, had no booze at all until a few weeks ago playing with the Rift and drinking fairly strong beers and cava. OMG the hangover on the Sunday was brutal. I can't remember it being so bad. Clearly I'm out of practice with the bevvy which is a good thing and my flat belly proves it lol :D

No disrespect but that wasn't your rock bottom, or you'd have done something about it. Instead you're doing the same thing again - which is doing nothing and hoping you've finally scared yourself into sobriety. It didn't work the last few times you tried, why will it work this time? Madness is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result.

Alcoholism is a bus which will take you to death if you let it. The only choice you have is when you get off the bus. If you really want to stop drinking then get done help. I recommend AA, its worked for me, but there will be plenty of other alcohol support outlets available locally if you don't want to go down the AA route.

Good luck.

Koolpc I feel for you, I know what its like to feel like you do. It doesn't have to be like that though. Feel free to email me, id be happy to discuss my problems with alcohol and how my life has changed since i stopped.

How damaging is around 3 bottles of wine a week? Cut down substantially now and just have some wine on an evening with the occasional glass of whiskey a couple times a month.

Not far off the recommendations of 21 units a week for a man.

I will always say it depends on quality as well. Three bottles of organic good quality red is very different to three bottles of 3.99 corner shop special screw top white.

I'm not convinced on quality making that much difference personally. I mean..it's obviously nicer :p but it's still alcohol at the end of the day.
