On The Wagon... then in 'ere!

Great job dude. I was reflecting last night that tomorrow will be 18yrs for me, and I really don't even think about it anymore. It does get a lot easier when you accept it just isn't a thing for you. Like if you are allergic to peanuts you don't spend all your time wishing you could eat them because they'll **** you up.
Think it's a year now since my last drink.

Last time I got "drunk" was first week of October 2023, then I remember having a small bottle of peroni a couple of weeks after that.

A recent holiday abroad had me tempted a couple of times but I just opted for a non alcoholic beer each time.

For anyone wanting to cut back it does get easier after the first few weeks. Breaking the routine of drinking on a Friday night after a week of work was the hard bit initially.

The liver is very resilient and capable of regenerating itself. Each time your liver filters alcohol, some of the liver cells die. The liver can develop new cells, but prolonged alcohol misuse (drinking too much) over many years can reduce its ability to regenerate.

Excessive alcohol consumption was covered on the radio and two or three glasses of white wine should then require 2 or 3 days recovery.

The Just had amazing time with Mrs in Tenerife
Hotel was out of this world.
Flew home had a few gins,by the time I got home, I came down with worst flu I’ve ever had.
So I’ve gone total for the rest of my life…

118 days now. Suddenly I have more disposable income lol.

Definitely feel more energetic - even a few pints on a Friday would knock 10% off my energy Saturday morning.

Navigated a few social dinners without even feeling the need for a drink which felt good.

I tried some alcohol free Guinness, but it wasn't for me.

Happy enough with soft drinks

After my drinking spiralling to levels I wouldn't even want to admit I made the change last year and although I do miss it at times I won't lie overall my life has changed drastically for the better. Money, relationships, mental health being a few. Ended up having seizures from quitting cold turkey so I'd warn people off that go get advice but well behind me now.

I can very much relate to what you've experienced, especially regarding seizures. Very, very scary situation to go through...

I've not touched alcohol for a while now but not really keeping count on days "clean time". I'm just taking it a day at a time but very much under no illusion that it can turn on it's head. For me I've had to make a whole life change to break the cycle/malady. Trying not to sit with my own thoughts for too long. Waking up each morning and asking myself would my life be better with or without alcohol. Connection and picking up the phone if I have thoughts.

Wish you well and goodluck on your journey. Reach out and don't be afraid to take help when it's there. It's not a drinking problem, it's a thinking problem.

Completely hits home all that, I didn't go down AA route as it was other stuff causing the issue. I went down the Andy's Man Club route and sorted my head out which lead to going down this route due to sorting that. All the best
