Onboard Graphics & with Ati Radeon 7850 at the same time ??

Ive just been reading something on the specs of my new motherboard called Virtu™ GPU Virtualization which from what i can tell states its possible to run my onboard Mobo GPU and the external Graphics (in this case my new 7850 2gb) apparently they can both run at the same time using onboard graphics in windows to save power ?

i read from a forum you do this simply by plugging it into your onboard graphics port and it can still utilise your pci-e card afterwards, can anyone else confirm this or have they had any luck with the same cards ? Because whenever i plug into my onboard dvi port (obviously leaving my 7850 plugged in) i dont get any display yet can hear by computer booting up

am i doing something wrong or what ???:confused:

no i hadnt either this is the claim

Switchable Graphics
Allows users to dynamically switch between built-in graphics and high-end, 3D discrete graphics cards.

Lucid Universal MVP Support

GIGABYTE 7 series motherboards support Lucid Virtu GPU virtualization technologies - optimized virtualization software that improves your PC's visuals, with faster response times, improved video processing and smoother media playback, all within a low power environment.
Lucid Universal MVP also features Hyperformance, which eliminates redundant rendering tasks and predicts potential synchronization issues in the graphics delivery pipeline, producing faster frame rates, sharper visuals and reduced tearing.

im not sure what it means by "discrete graphics cards" though

strange lol, a discrete graphics card is a graphics card that is seperate from your machine that uses its own memory and resources so i guess that means any graphcis card lol

you learn something every day

anyways..i guess that means it should definitley work ?!! would love to get some answers to this, googling doesnt seem to be much help for this, i must be googling the wrong words !!

its not just the power consumption defy, apparently it can boost graphics in games especially while using v-sync, id like to get it running just to see it in action

what board is it? z77? if so yes itll work and share the load alongside your graphic card, sort of a mini xfire

yes its the Z77, Yeah sounds pretty cool, have you used it yourself ?

i read that in order for it to work you need to plug your monitor into onboard graphics and then install the lucid mvp software and then your computer can use both at the same time, problem being when i plug mine into my onbaord graphics i just get a blank screen and it wont even allow me to install the software when plugged directly into my 7850

This has been floating around for some time, there is software out there which can xFire APU's with AMD Discrete GPU's, or any sort of SLI / xFire IGPU + Discrete GPU.

The software is buggy but works 'ish' it would not be at all surprising to see hardware makers getting involved in this.

It's an interesting thing to look out for.

i havnt used it yet,im on z68 atm,it should work, maybe if you take out the gpu and set to igpu, then save/exit and install your graphic card again

sometimes boards dont detect onboard graphics/graphic card

yeah would be good if it worked...or at least for me, when i plug it into my mobo i just get a blank screen so cant really reap the benefits as the softare just wont install :(

Make sure the IGPU is turned on, or IGPU first then PCIe in the BIOS.

I used it with a Z68 board but it required a hack to do it as it is officialy only for Z77 boards. I used it to bench and it boosted frames incredibly but when I used it in BF3 it felt horrid. I can see the potential and think it is a great idea. Other users are reporting it to be awsome.

I'd be interested in this hack. How do I go about getting it to work on a z68 board?

thanks humbug that worked:), im now plugged into onboard graphics, i got an error with ccc etc and im in like 800x600 resolution so just downloading vga drivers and mvp but ill keep the posted updated :)

Supper, thank for letting me know. good luck :)

Got mine going through my card, MVP enabled get nice performance boost in some games.
Just make sure you install the app if you haven't already to get it working.
If unsure its working the icon will show red in the task bar an show a water mark at the launch of certain games it works with.
When its not enabled it will show white in the task bar icon.

OOp's you got it sorted :)
