Onda v975w Tablet - Windows 8 with 'Retina' Screen review.

It arrived :) no complaints so far, well other than MS servers being hammered. Did a full reset and now it wont activate. But 99% sure it's because it's servers are clogged up,
It's win 8.1 with bing 64bit.
Which means I can't update to win10 as I need it activated first.

Oh and no pen, even though I'm sure I was one if the first.

Thats good news, ive heard a lot of people complaining about cracked windows 8.1 pro license on these but since yours is with bing I think you will be fine.
Also there was an announcement of sorts that the Pens/Keyboards would come after as there was an issue getting the stock so there is still hope.
Mine is currently at
03-08-2015 Despatched to overseas (Country code: GB).

Currently looking at upgrading the SSD to a 256GB for ~ £90. Tempting.....

Not to bothered about pen, just wanted it to play around with, I doubt I would actually use it.. Power jack is annoying, can't really use tablet while it's plugged in. Unless its resting on the case stand.

Why oh why don't all tablets have a built in kickstand. I don't like cases.

It actually looks pretty smart without the case on. Gets pretty warm though. Not sure if that's CPU, or battery charging or both.

:( did the force phone activation cmd prompt, and it's an invalid license :(
I di have spare win7 and win 8 keys, but that means making a USB drive and trying to do a fresh install.'' what a pain in the rear.
I'll email seller, but can't see much coming off that.

Mine arrived this morning via royal mail. Big air bubble under the glass though which is very annoying. Downloading marcium reflect to take a backup image before I have a play with it.
Any ideas if the bubble will slowly go or will it likely stay around.
Just noticed the battery doesnt seem to be connected so it wont stay on without power. Looks like its going back.

Mine is due here in the next day or so too. I will be opening a dispute if it has a cracked copy of Windows on it.

It seems that a lot of them are suffering ESD issues with the WiFi antenna causing the SSD to lock up and crash the machine. A small piece of foil taped between them fixes it apparently.

Either way, if mine turns up with a cracked copy of windows and no keyboard I will be returning it.

Well I've had mine open twice, plugged in the battery and isolated from the WiFi from the ssd. Upgraded to win 10 and activated but still remnants of Chinese language about so I will reformat when I buy a new ssd.
Still got bubble in screen so going to push for a partial refund very happy with the speed of the device though, visual studio 2015 runs fine as does portal 2 @1080p.
Id be over moon if didn't have this bubble.

Just fixed my bubble in screen turns out if you use a sucker on screen and just move it about it gets rid of it. Very happy with it now, spent lunch today playing Cs go on it doing missions.

Keep us posted on it. Mine is now showing as due on Monday.
I'm holding off on ordering a 256GB SSD for the minute until I see how good or crap it is.

Did you get the keyboard with yours?

Didn't buy the keyboard as wasn't sure how good it would be as I hadnt seen any reviews. I did buy the case which is ok and holds the tablet at a decent angle.
Things on my purchase list for this month 256 GB SSD, micro HDMI cable, Wacom Stylus new xInput controller.

Woke up this morning and in bed cloned a GIT in visual studio 2015 and compiled it. VS works great on it. Also spent a lot of time playing orcs must die 2 on it which works perfectly. Audio through audio jack is good too. Its been streaming video and audio for about 6 hours (plugged in)now and not dropped or stuttered out once.

Mine turned up and the keyboard is actually rather good. The keys have a good action and the click-pad isn't the worst I've ever used. Completely useable.
I've stuck Windows 10 on it and it seems to be working really well. Seemed to activate too which I thought odd considering that the base Windows 8.1 on it was a KMS activated version.

I have been looking for a decent Windows tablet, which is not Atom powered, so these look like an interesting solution.

Time for a bit of 'Googling' I think! :)

Edit: The 'official' website, onda.com is in Chinese with no UK version, other than using Google translate, so I assume that onda-tablet.com is the best one to use for ordering etc.?

Got annoyed at the stylus i7 still having Chinese bits and pieces around OS so I made a windows 10 USB stick and reformatted completely touch screen worked during install which was nice, then just ran the driver package and all up and running again in English. I did have to use one a spare windows 10 key I had though.
Turns out the panel is the same panel as Surface Pro 2. Which is why its so good and has Wacom in.
Also anyone know where to get a spare charger from? Its a 3.5mm jack with output of 12volts and 2.5amps.

Got a link to the driver package?
Still wont activate, so going to use one if my many spare keys, to install 8.1 then upgrade to 10.

Thanks. Trying to install windows is proving to be a pain.

When can't it just accept a working serial number and install the right version.

Edit - wahhioo finally got it running w8.1 pro and activated,

Got mine running Windows 10 nicely. I've got a 256GB SSD coming tomorrow that I will install in it. I'll clone the drive across.

I only have one issue so far and that that Windows 10 doesn't automagically switch to tablet mode when I undock the keyboard like it does on my other convertible. Not sure why as I have the setting turned on. I guess the drivers for the keyboard aren't telling Windows what to do.

Ive seen other people say this on windows 10. Apparently there is a registry key but ive not found it yet.
There is a setting in System -> Tablet mode you can try, I dont have a keyboard for it though to test.

I've got those settings turned on. Like I say, I managed to enable it for my other convertible but not this one.
There must be a way to tell Windows to switch when a certain device is detected. Just need to find it.
