So..finally after building my pc ages ago and planning on getting an ssd "pretty soon" (were touching two years now), going through a gpu upgrade, psu upgrade for my 2nd gpu upgrade lol I finally got an SSD! I had my eyes set on the Corsair Neutron gtx, but tbh they never really dropped in price so I listened to reason (and my wallet) and decided to purchase a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB,I had AHCI enabled in my motherboard before installation as well as upgrading the firmware on the ssd when samsungs magician software prompted me to, and I've double checked that TRIM is enabled -anything I've missed here?

Now for some pictures - apologise for the picture quality, I just use my phone, I've spoiler tagged the pictures because I've a bad habit of uploading large image sizes lol :

This is just the generic picture of the 840 out of the box

I opted for the basic version as the NZXT Phantom (along with most other cases these days I assume) allows for the ssd to be mounted on the 3.5" brackets as such:

Now the only tests I've run so far is the basic on the included magician software with the results being :

Additionally the SSD is optimised for performance and All I have so far is Windows 7 + Updates installed (along with drivers), It looks like my random read+writes are falling short from this so thought I'd post here and ask :).

On a more positive note so far I have noticed a large change in the boot up time and tb h something I've probably noticed and like even more is how quickly my pc powers off :D, havnt really done anything else as my 1TB HD needs to be cleaned out before I use it in conjunction with the ssd (lots of files I need to transfer off it but I have to wait for a delivery before I cant start that process)

Thanks for reading this far and I look forward to your comments/suggestions :D

Thanks for that, I should also of said I consulted my motherboards manual to make sure I was using the intel sata ports.

My random reads went up to 86469 but random writes dropped to 39257 (though it started out at like 80k and gradually dropped)

I was actually thinking of asking about the bios I'm using, Im still on a pretty early revision - 0603- or something, and it doesnt look like any update helps ssds its seems to be new cpu support and stability update, is the over-provisioning worth it? Havnt read much into it :-)
