I wonder if the invite system is quicker than the preorder, as one of the previous posters suggested?

depends whether they have an allocation for invites and a different one for pre-orders.

decided to try the ordering system, 0 issues - on paypal payment page within 60 seconds of starting the preorder. noerrors, no timeouts.

I'm not buying one though, will stick to my G2.

I remember trying to order N4 when it launched, that was MUCH bigger challenge than this.

They capitulated on their 'one-hour only' window within the first minute! If you'd have shown up anytime in that first hour you'd have been sorely disappointed.

Predictable yes.

I caved in and managed to get one, wasn't too sure with the lack of some 4G band but decided I could live with 3G, should be a big upgrade from my lumia 800.

can't remember the exact time, but might have been just after the first hour, like 5-10 minutes.

i wanted to ask if there is OPO 2 planned, but with this demand, I don't think it's anywhere close.

Couldn't get through in the main hour and only just managed to get through a bit ago, 7-8 weeks shipping time, No thank you, I can't wait that long. If anyone has a spare invite going, I'd really appreciate it!

Yeah, I'd take an invite too, if anyone was feeling generous, assuming it is a separate pot of stock from the preorders!

I completely forgot about 3pm as I was busy playing bayonetta 1, but then I'd decided I'd go for the iPhone 6 or sony Xperia z3 or maybe wait to see how much the desire eye is(and if it's available on the giffgaff monthly thing(but it's meant to be a 3 exclusive so not sure they'll be doing it).

It's separate - those ordered via invites get sorted immediately (supposedly), whereas with the pre-orders you get that potential for a delay (as those above have seen with the 4-5 week delivery window).

I wish I could recall where I read it (a couple of places) but I've been reading about this phone so much recently I couldn't hazard a guess at where, my apologies.

This isn't where I read it, but this site suggests the same

However, if OnePlus sees you as an esteemed customer, (after you pre-order) and sends out an invite, you can then bypass the entire pre-order system and directly get your OnePlus One shipments delivered.

So essentially a pre-existing invite will do the same. But you can use those invites given to you for ordering through the pre-order system to also bypass your own pre-order! It seems at least...
